What would you build these days? I know SEO but I am not sure what kind of site to build to get ranked. I am thinking some kind of review site - and have reviews for physical products and use amazon - I would happily pay someone who makes these sites. As far as review sites go for amazon are the reviews legit or do people just make stuff up/take about the features?

    If you are an SEO expert you should already know the answer to this question since it's an important part of SEO.

    No point targeting a niche without a plan of action to make money from it.

      I'm sorry, but isn't knowing SEO and knowing which niche to target two separate tasks?

      I work with SEO professionally on an agency 40 hours a week. I know how to get websites to rank, but I'm not sure which are the most cost/time-efficient niches.

        You might work in SEO, but based on the above you aren't an SEO expert.

        It is part of SEO to target traffic which will convert, I used to be an SEO consultant (for over 10 years) and if I couldn't tell a client what SERPs to target in their industry I wasn't doing my job correctly.

        With a blank slate (choose any niche) it's much easier, there are so many niches with a LOT of money to be earned from them. Which niches to target depends on how you plan to make money, for example literature SERPs great for selling books, rubbish for AdSense. Humor niches, great for high traffic, rubbish for ads. Amazon affiliate sites (any affiliate site), unless you are going to target a lot of products (lots of long tail SERPs: Amazon's 4-8% commission on a $2 sale just isn't worth the time) go for the high priced items, less effort, more commission.

        It's not rocket science.

      given the premise of your title the last thing I would think about is a review site..I'd rather rank a professional service site for the top words

          People are paying over $300 per click in AdWords for that, so you can imagine what they are willing to actually pay per lead...

    If you know SEO and it works, look for products or companies with products offering big commissions. Ensure there's a decent market for it and that it sells.

    I like recurring software because you can build a growing income stream.

    High priced physical products can be great too because they sell well. Promote both vendor's site and Amazon if sold on Amazon.

    You're fortunate you know SEO because there's no shortage of extremely valuable keywords to rank for.
