Question For All The "Backlinkers"

Just wondering...

Has anyone had the opportunity to unbacklink a website they have built backlinks to? In other words, gone back and removed all of the backlinks.

I am wondering what the initial and long-term effects of doing this would be on your webiste or web page.

Anyone?

If not, I might just have a go at it myself!

    • Many reasons. overused anchor text.

For example, if you have a lot of forum signiture links with the same anchor. It will devalue the anchor, and you could end up in a phrase based penalty.

One of my very own sites went from #180 to first page by deleting about 3500 forum signature links with the anchor I was shooting for,

  • Allen:

You should give it a shot. Backlinking is very productive. I outsource mine and have a contractor who will backlink an entire Angela's monthly 30-site packet for less than $10. So for about $13, I'm getting 30 or more backlinks per month.

I'm teaching my teenaged daughters about IM. We're was messing with a little site I set up a couple of weeks ago, just before the end of June. It's an Amazon affiliate site, targeting a specific make and line of televisions. I'm dripping out a new blog post every two days, each post is the product info from Amazon for the individual products in the line.

Two weeks ago it was way, way down the list at Google for my target keyword phrase, I don't remember exactly but maybe it was page 4 or 5. I sent one Angela packet -- ONE -- for this site last week and had my contractor do the links. Today that site is now 5th overall at the Big G, behind the manufacturer's site but (get this) AHEAD of Amazon's pages for the same products.

It's that good, and seemingly that quick.
  • Oh crap, never mind, Allen. I see you're inquiring about "un-backlinking" and not backlinking.

    What a DOOFUS I am.
  • LOL Steven,

I agree with you though. Backlinking is very powerful. That's why I am trying to look at it from all angles and from outside of the box.

    • I do not have enough posts to post a link, but look at Angela Edwards signature for the link. It's a monthly subscription to sites that can provide high quality backlinks.

I'll leave your other questions to the more experienced members.
  • I am having trouble understanding why you even want to know about this?
  • Give it a try Allen, it would be good to find an answer to this one!

However, I'm a conservative "Test Freak" and won't like to get the answer on my own.

  • Fortunately I have a lot of VRE to play around with.

    • Allen,

PM me and I'll give you a list of some of my websites you can point those old backlinks to.

  • Allen I have to admit I'm having trouble understanding the why as well. But I have to say go for it and see what it gets you. I have been reading Jay Abraham and he is always saying, look out side of the box and don't just follow what other people are doing. If you want to be a leader of the pack you can't follow. I hope you find some new and amazing breakthrough with this "test" Keep us updated on how it works out for you. I'm curious. And Good Luck!

    • Thanks Jenn,

I too have been saying that for quite a long time (outside the box). I just thought maybe someone could have saved me the time.

I'm not necessarily looking for anything specific right now from manipulating the backlinks. You just have to think on a different plane than everyone else and sometimes you can figure out some really cool things!

  • Outsource it to me, I know how. I will charge $1,500 per month. Pm me for more details.

    • That must have been a joke, but I didn't get it. I know that Angela and Paul will do both of their lists for $150 each month.

Edit: Now I get the joke. You were posting while I was writing.

    • Is this guy serious?

Anyway, I would give it a test, as you say you will prob be the first to do so(that I know of anyway) and report back after a while and let us know how it went.

You may have a small bunch of bad backlinks and if you can get rid of some of these then it can only do your site good.

      Good question though.

  • Hmmm? Unbacklinking? This is a very controversial thread. Go back to the sites where you did your backlinks and what delete it? And then what will happen? Lose all the traffics that is coming to your site? LOL... Its hilariuos Allen. You really think way out of the box.

    • This is by far the funniest post on this forum in recent time.

I like Allen's thinking but unfortunately he is not willing to pay to get it done.

      @Allen, waiting for your PM.
    • Allen I think it will be an interesting test tho I can see why people here are wondering why you would want to delete all the backlinks you have on a site.

But you might make some very interesting discoveries. Please keep us updated with the results from doing this. and good for you..thinking outside the box...that's how all great discoveries come into being.
  • Have you seen the movie the "Butterfly Effect". There lies you answer.

The past is over. So be careful how you plan your linking strategy. Make a mistake and it gets multiplied over and over.
  • I had a site done by a backlink service before then after some months I checked the links and most of them were gone and so is my ranking in the SERPS and PR. So I think that would be the effect of unbacklinking
  • I can understand why you'd want to do that. I can't understand who you'd do that. Seems like a lot of hard work.

  • Yes, I am talking about using a set of backlinks to one of my web pages, letting them take hold, and then going back and removing those backlinks altogether.

How long would it take to see an effect from that action, if there even IS an effect.

I was looking at Google Webmaster Tools last night after I posted this and I saw some backlinks that were "last seen" by Google several months ago. Are they still giving me credit for those backlinks even though they haven't seen them since February? They are certainly still in my backlinks list on Google's site.

You guys have had some good ideas. Keep thinking.

    Respectfully,
    Allen
  • Well unless you manually got the backlinks through like signature links, then it shouldn't be hard to do (just remove the links in your signature).

However if owners of other sites are adding your links in themselves, you'd have to contact them to remove your link.

But not sure why anyone would want to do this in the first place?
