Building Local Private Blog Networks

In this post, I will share a strategy that works extremely well for my local SEO clients. The service is essentially a done-for-you private blog network (PBN). Many PBN link builders have PBNs specific to a given niche. For example, an entire PBN dedicated to pet care, where all the sites have pet care-related content and link to pet care-related sites.

A localized PBN is similar, but different. In the same way that a niche-specific PBN would have expired domains that were previously related to a specific niche, a localized PBN has domains that were about a specific location. The location could be as simple as a small town or as big as a country.

The difference comes in when looking for the expired domains. Whereas with a niche-specific PBN you're finding old pages with content specific to a given niche, with a location-specific PBN you're looking for old pages with content specific to a location. So for example, if you have a client who builds custom mobile homes in Southern California, then you want to look for lots of pages with words of cities, towns, townships and counties in SoCal. Doing this will help you find lots of expired domains specific to those regions, which have location-specific backlinks.

It's a simple strategy, but I have yet to meet a single SEO who implements it. Most SEOs are so focused on the niche that they fail to consider location-relevance of their PBN domains.

Location relevance is a trifling consideration while building a PBN whether for local sites or niche sites. You can use any PBN to rank any type of site.

Indeed, it is low on the list of Local Search Ranking Factors (#23). But it's working well for me, and it allows me to specialize and sell to clients in a particular geographic area.

Your first post made it seem like it was imperative to have a local PBN to rank for local keywords. It's nice to know they are producing good results for you.

Definitely not imperative, but it's a strategy that outranks my clients' competition, who use PBN links with similar similar content/authority/trust.

So how long before you saw results with this tactic for local ranking?

Not all Private blog network services work the same, some will ask you how you want your blogs to be built, there you can specify that you want sites in your network created around a certain area.
