I got a backlink from the local Council, can it help me?

Hi all
I'm about ready to start getting visitors to my main site after a lot of development work, this is my site The Card Project | Home (currently I get about two hits a day, one is me and the other probably my Mom)

You'll see from the main menu at the top that I have four other sites hosted as sub domains. One of the other sites (idcontrol.thecardproject.co.uk) has a web page which the Council use to gather data from a handful of customers (only a couple per week)

My question is, the IDControl website has little content (its a site where some customers order their ID cards), but my main site is a blog and has a fair bit of content. Can I somehow get any 'link juice' from the Council backlink into my main website?

Or is one backlink not by itself going to make much difference anyway?

    Forgot to point out that the link from the council is nothing to do with ID cards - here it is

    Typically .gov and .edu carry a lot of weight and are always beneficial. I don't know if being that it is a sub domain you already ARE getting juice from it or not, but it's worth hanging on to those .gov links

    .gov & .edu have nothing to do with SEO.

    What matters is the internal/external link profile for the exact webpage URL where your own backlink is located.

    Sub-domains on it's own has nothing to do with ranking.

      It certainly won't hurt. There are a lot of different views as to how much .gov and .edu domains do in terms of ranking. But it will only have a positive effect!
