How do you guys rank for long tail keywords? I found some low volume/high CPC long tail keywords relevant to my niche and I would like to know how to rank for those keywords. My particular webpage with the long tail keywords in the article is showing up on the first page of Google for these keywords but, it is in positions 5 thru 10 and I want to get it up to the first position. How should I go about doing this?

Just add good quality contents, use same long tail keyword as your title and related url, description to the website. Check keyword density once you add the contents.

Quality is the key. If you can do "guest posting" on a high authority site related to your blogs, that's the best way to rank.

Increase the keyword density, or consider using them in subheadings as well. Otherwise, build links. Pretty simple stuff....

Thanks, guys. So, I am guessing that anchor text back links are just as important for ranking long tail keywords as they are for short keywords?

Unfortunately, I'm not a very strong writer. Is there another off-page SEO way to rank long tail keywords that is just as effective as blog guest posting?

      2. Video sharing, infographic sharing, PPT sharing with keyword optimized title and description.

The easiest way I know of is to add one of those keywords in your title. You are bound to experience a boost for that keyword if you do this, but it's for just one keyword. To rank higher for the rest, you will need backlinks.

About press releases. I haven't done anything like that yet and my guess is you have to pay for a press release that will actually get results. Can someone suggest a trustworthy company that can do a press release that gets results and drives targeted convertible traffic to my website? I can't afford to pay thousands of dollars but, hundreds of dollars isn't out of the question.
      {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[9822675].message }}
      • Upon completion I will send written copy for review and approval.
Once approved Press Release Marketing will begin and a final report will be sent showing:

        Cost include writing is $350

        1. Distribution to 600 News sites, 150 Newspaper, TV & Radio websites
        2. 450-480 Published News links will be provided in a PDF report file.
        3. Include premium media outlets like IBTimes, WND,Boston, Cincinnati.com etc..
        4. Google Indexed Pages & Google Inclusion report
        5. Writing a professional Press Release for your company

Press releases can be a great way to promote your business. They can get your name in the media, improve your search ranking and send you traffic.
Lastly, consistent press releases can establish you as an industry expert. This is important because establishing your expertise helps you gain the trust of your targeted audience.
But being an expert is also good for media relations. Whenever the media needs someone to comment on an issue related to your industry, your name will be front of mind.

Thank you for your time and patience.

        Sincerely,
        Michael

All very interesting approaches. I will experiment with these. GOY, what you said about increasing keyword density makes sense but, is there a way to know what the highest percentage of that keyword on the page will help you rank for it before crossing the threshold line and over doing it? I am building backlinks on forums that are relevant to my niche with various longtail keyword anchors. How long does it usually take to see a rise in SERPS after pinging those backlink pages if they have a PR of 4 and above?

You rank long tail keywords the same you rank any other type of keyword, by doing off-page seo link building & using increasing social signals for social network sites.

Obviously there are services here on the forum that will easily rank your page higher
, but if you want to do it yourself you can link build manually by using the following :

    Web 2.0's- Tumblr,blogspot,weebly,pinterests,etc

    Social Bookmarking sites- reddit,stumble upon,etc

    Web directories

    rss feed aggregrates

    press release sites

    Blog commenting

    Forum Link buidling

    Article directories

    Image sharing sites

    Slideshow sites

Wow, WF is getting bad. I was emailed over this worthless thread.

Content: The average word count for first page placement is 2,300 words long. I have seen a trend that longer and high quality content ranks much better. increase your word count.

Make sure your title and H tags have other long tail variations.

Email Outreach: email other top bloggers that have semi-related content and ask for links. You can find email templates anywhere that are effective.

Guest Post: Yes, they still work and work well as long as you don't guest post on trash sites.

Social: Make sure you promote your post in social media on your accounts.

This is not rocket science and it's fairly easy to do...even if you're not a writer.

You can get content on Iwriter, odesk, elance and other places online for a fairly low price.

for outreach, they will likely anchor it with some variation of your title, all guest post should be branding and/or URL links. Never use keywords in anchor text on guest post.

You also get a boost if you link to your social accounts in guest post.

To rank long tailed keywords (or any keywords) you need to Build backlinks on high PR pages, using those keywords as your anchor text. The backlinks need to be dofollow, and are better if they are contextual (surrounded by related text) and relevant (on sites in your niche). Also, when building backlinks, make sure to vary your anchor text by using synonyms/variations of your targeted keywords.

    Hi

I'm going to go against the grain of everything said here

before you can plan your attack you need to know what kind of Domain Authority your competition has against yours

next you need to know why they are ranking

I am finding many websites are ranking top ten without even the keyword in any of its content

with that being said if your competitors are ranking without the main keyword to be found in their content they can only be ranking based on their authority

I'm basing this against millions and millions of keywords being tested

if you look at this youtube video I can demonstrate what I mean with having no keyword phrases in the content for all 10 rankings but they still rank

sorry for hijacking the thread but

something wrong here I can't see youtube videos anymore no matter what thread I am on

My advice is to read as many books as you can get your hands on.
Not only will you receive the knowledge you wish but you will also
gain so much more to use in your business.

then how do you explain many websites ranking for keywords they don't even have in their content

its all about the over all domain these days, and nothing to do with the page your presenting

every niche is different for what is considered an authority and I can prove it

when you have viewed millions and millions of keywords eventually the new Google changes start revealing themselves

if your still using PR after John Mueller and Matt Cutts announced updates have ceased 2013
and Keyword Planner for metrics your missing what Google has done

what has happened is branding, popularity and authority from offline has finally caught up with the internet good luck if your trying to rank for terms that offline power houses dominate

the little guy does not have a chance anymore unless your competing where the big boys are not
and I can prove it things have change

one page wonders don't rank well anymore but sites with mass appeal do

If you've got 50% of the first 10 rankings it's possible that's all you'll get for that single webpage, so why not just write another page about the same topic and make it better then the original. ???

Most of the advice in this thread is way off and screwed because some of those who posted replies stand to benefit if you buy their link package from them.

With Google's new ranking algorithm you need to not only be using the right keywords, but your page content needs to show as an authority on the subject to Google. Basically you can rank for keywords now without ever using those keywords if the rest of the content on the page is very relevant to that keyword.

Consider a site about any topic, real experts will be using a lot of words that Google knows are relevant to that topic, so Google not only looks to see what keyword your page looks like it is targeting, but if the page content is using other words that are also appropriate for that topic. This is where "quality" content comes in, if your content is truly "quality" on a topic you will naturally be using lots of words or phrases that relate to the topic of your page.

So, how do you do this? First longer content will naturally be using more words, and more words means more chances to have related words in the content. Second you need to do a little bit more detailed research on the word or phrase you selected as your keyword. Make a list of other words or phrases that an expert in that topic would likely use and then make sure you get those words into your page as well.

It is no longer just about picking the right keyword/phrase, Google's new algorithm looks at all of the text on your page and gives it a quality score as well. The more you sound like an expert based upon the words/phrases you use in your content the higher you will place on the page. And, yes this also means that you can get 1st page placement for keywords that you don't use if you happen to use a lot of other words that are related to that keyword.

    Bottom line, write great content.

Everything discussed here has its place

but the one thing that is being missed is the relationship of the keywords being sought
and the intent of the keywords for what they do for you

are you trying to rank and establish yourself for a informational site first and monetize
      later on within

or are you trying to sell products

it is very important to select keywords to rank for a purpose
if your using keyword planner or other traditional tactics you can't tell

my first plan of action is to always follow the money trail
this tells you exactly what is happening in the search results
      success leaves evidence

here is a video to prove what I have to say

you can't trust what Google tells you
you actually have to see what and who they rank
this is only done by looking at the search results

it's the old saying don't do as I do but do as I say

no longer can you just look at keyword planner first other than a keyword generator

in addition Google specifically throttles certain keyword groups for specific reasons
offline trust has come to the internet

and it is all niche specific
      more about that later
