Surely do add some relevance to your website both for users and search engines. But keyword tag is not gaining that much importance than it is used to get in previous years. Content is always treated as a king still and focusing on the content more is what you should throw some more light.

There are some sites that don't have meta tags but still they are gaining rankings. That is due to the H1 tags on your website and how relevantly it is placed.

Meta tag alway work but you should to give important to create high quality article in your site.

Meta tags are and always have been an important part of SEO but they have no value on their own i.e. they become valuable in relation to other complementary signals. Inbound links, engagement, outbound links, quality of content etc etc.

There are three main ingredients: 1. Quality Content, 2. Good Inbound Links, 3. Optimised On Page SEO or Meta Data. Get those three things right and you will rank.

Meta Tags will work always. It depends on the quality of the webcontent and page authority. Dont expect if you have meta tags updated and content in your webpage it will easily start ranking. Thats totally different case, If you have crap content (duplicate or irrelevant to the page) and has a different meta then you will never get ranked for such type of pages. So choose variation in meta and content too. Think smartly now as Google is going smart and its algorithm is updating all the time for freshness.
