SEO/Link building for 'boring niches

Hi all,

I'm starting to get really demoralized with link building for a few of our clients campaigns, boring niches like 'legal' or super competitive ones like 'car insurance', and although we write great content it hardly seems to be picked up.

We've got an active Social Media campaign going and promote the content on Twitter/Facebook etc but nothing seems to be happening!

Anyone have any tips to get over this plateau? Or a new angle/fresh way of looking at things...

Google has dumped all type of link building all together.. So it is of no use.

Instead of creating content for yourself & hoping the rest of the net likes it, create content for other domains needs, let them publish your content/links.

In other words If you want links, it's not about you, it's about what you have to offer in exchange for a link.

Links and a sites backlink profile are still incredibly important in Google's eyes when it comes to evaluating a sites/pages authority. At least to my knowledge!

I concur with Robbie Richards' opinion expressed in this article. Start with competitor backlink analysis.
We've tried scouring our competitiors backlinks, some are a lot older than us and so, so shoddy! We won't be mirroring those. Matthew's blog is okay, I always feel like I'm being egged on to buy something though.

The irony of those 2 posts quoted together in your response speaks volumes.

Basically - those "industry experts" are doing EXACTLY what yukon recommends.

Every one of those experts got a link (or 5) from a well visited blog in an article that people are going to be sharing all over the web.
