Don't Know If I Have Optimized My Site Properly

I have always been keen on knowing if my site has been accurately optimized. How do i find out? Am inexperience with SEO, however i optimized my site myself just want to verify that i did the right thing.

Has google accepted it.

How do i get my site to the top page on the major search engines.
