Shortcut to Rank? - Redirecting Brand URL to EMD

Lets say I have BrandName.com website with decent link portfolio, but not so great that it can rank for "Money Keyword". So, I go purchase MoneyKeyword.com URL and 301 redirect BrandName.com to it. EMD algo notwithstanding, we know that Google still loves EMDs that have good quality content.

If BrandName.com were ranking say #25 on Google for "Money Keyword", and it has good content to pass EMD algorithm, could MoneyKeyword.com rank at say #5?

    Sure, if you're trying to rank for Blue Monkey Fuzzy Slippers as a keyword.

    If you think just getting an EMD for anything competitive will suddenly rocket you to #5, you have a lot of learning left to do.

      jezter6, Its not just about ranking only on the strength of an EMD, which in the absence of other signals will not take you to Page-1. My question is in the context of chances of a website, already with a decent link profile, to move up the ranks if redirected to an EMD. The difference an EMD will make to a website's ranks. Thanks.
