It looks like Google is going to use this criteria, if they haven't already. If you have many sites, it is going to be a real PITA to convert them all...

  • Here is something Barry put together: Google Mobile Search Descriptions Now Say If You're Blocking Google

Make sure your site is good to avoid a GWMT warning. Here we go again everyone.
  • So long as your theme is responsive then you should be good from this, right?

    • Right now it is too early to say. We'll need to see what the first batch of warnings say and then figure it out from there.

  • Guys, it's time to WAKE UP.. Forget your backlinks and all that crap that you people keep talking here every day!

Google has now explicitly put into wording that if your sites are not mobile friendly, you will be EXCLUDED from the SERPs on mobile. If you have not received the emails from GWMT by now, you should. They are literally forcing everyone to make their sites mobile friendly now. It's not an option any more. You must make your sites all mobile friendly.

Here is an excerpt from the GWMT email I received:

"Google systems have tested 78 pages from your site and found that 100% of them have critical mobile usability errors. The errors on these 78 pages severely affect how mobile users are able to experience your website. These pages will not be seen as mobile-friendly by Google Search, and will therefore be displayed and ranked appropriately for smartphone users."

Yet, there are many issues. There are relatively few WordPress themes around that are mobile friendly and also simple in design, not looking like an over made up and OTT junk magazine. Adsense implementation is also very poor. I think your CTR will bomb on a mobile "optimized screen". I hardly see Adsense being implemented on mobile sites, do you? Maybe that's why?

Mobile friendly means your site will fit exactly on your handphone screen when it loads up and cannot be made bigger.

That is mobile friendly....Get the memo now!
  • mobile friendly pages are ranking factor for mobile searchers only, not for desktop searchers. But yes number of mobile searchers are increasing daily, so one should focus on building mobile friendly website and also fast loading website.
