Keyword placement

Hey guys, I've got a question regarding keyword placement. I bought a domain and started an affiliate website back in November, I didn't do much on it until two weeks ago and realized I might have gotten myself into a competitive area but that's okay with me, I've learned a lot!

When I first started I put a specific keyword in every post, thinking I would rank because of it. It was a two word low comp keyword, with around 40k searches every month. This was what I did for the first few weeks. Every post I would try to cram in "X X" a couple of times in the post without making it spammy.

What I do now instead is research keywords around the specific subject I'm writing about and put those in, ignoring the "X X" keyword completely.

I'm wondering if this is the right way to go? Do I have to have the specific keyword in every post to rank for it?

  • It is totally wrong to include same keyword in all articles for no. of times. Using synonyms of that particular keyword is right way. Also do on-page optimization first to improve websites visibility and do quality link building to improve your keyword ranking.

If you are novice in SEO field i would like to suggest you moz's SEO beginners guide to understand about SEO process.
  • as the guys above said.. don't target the same keyword in every article, you will just end up competing with yourself..Your 2nd method is much better!
  • Alright, thanks for the advice, I'll keep doing things with my second method.

I'm gonna check out the beginners guide you mentioned Rozerr, probably still got tons of stuff to fix with my site!

I'm gonna redo my home page to a static one and I'm thinking of having my main keyword there.
  • Use same keywords in all articles is not beneficial for seo of your website. So to get high rank use different keywords in different articles.
  • Using synonyms insted of repeating the same keywords will reflect the natural flow and not only search engines but your visitors will also enjoy reading your posts.

    • Yes, I'm completely agree with webdevpro using synonym's insted of repeating a single keyword again and again. don't depend on few or a single keyword, use keyword divercification in your seo tactics.
  • Better work smartly not as you mentioned. Common key-terms would be linked to each other like we have seen in tag cloud but here you can also use synonyms and nearby keywords which is also relevant and be a good help if domain is popular
