Keyword Rankings constant, traffic dropped

I have a website, ranking in Google.com for 3 keywords around 4th and 5th. Rankings have been constant for the last month, however, impressions (in WMT) and traffic for those keywords have dropped by around 35%-40%. I'm not sure why this is, has anybody had a similar situation?

Possible causes:
*Ranking drop in other Google countries (although I am tracking US traffic and that has dropped)
*Less demand for the same keywords )Google Trends does not show any big drop)
* Inaccurate rank tracker (tried 3 different ones)
*Drop in long tail keywords traffic (actually checked the available figures in WMT which shows a drop in traffic and impressions for the kw's that are ranking).

Anyone with any other possible suggestions?

  • Mostly people click first three results in the search engines, it may cause to drop your traffic.

    Social media is best way for traffic either you have done less social media promotion.
  • A lot of "keyword trackers" out there use YOUR results to serve up your current rankings and YOUR results can be personalized without you even knowing it. Have you checked your rankings without any personalized results recently? I typically clear all browser temporary files and go into a private browser to assure I'm getting get fresh and accurate results.

    • Might be a holiday, might be that your CTR dropped and you are still on same position, but the competition has a better title / meta description - or the competition got some rich snippet (if google decided to put it up again). A few cases I got on my mind when I know the SERP is the same but I get less UV.
  • Inaccurate ranking trackers? Didn't you check manually? I normally use those trackers if only the SERP is 50 or up, where I can't check the ranking manually!
  • Thanks guys, still baffling. According to various rank trackers and my own checking in different browsers on different devices, I'm ranking between 1st and 3rd, but WMT says 5th If it is 5th, that explains the drop.

    Please take a serious action with website because of your issues seems like Google algorithm attacks on your website and you need to go analysis your website at each parts like contents and links and local seo results...

    If your not do to that then your website is going to Google bot errors so take action

    • Are you serious? Obviously trying to plug your services but you ain't got a clue. If it's ranking on the first page, how can there be a 'Google algorithm attack'?
  • its start up level of issues so take a steps...You will may be get rank dropped in coming days and i cant say that your are attacked by algorithm bt i can predict that because of i was already faced same issues to one of my client ...

    Yes of course without know your seo methods and without knowing your website analysis we can't say correct issues and solutions ...
