Can a page going viral give boost to main site?

Hey guys,

I've been in the community for a while, albeit not posting as much as I should. I love and am thankful to you all for your hard work and advice over the years. The reason I'm here today is because I'm in a blind spot right now and would really, really appreciate some input.

This will probably make me sound like a newbie, but here goes-

I set up a blog about my topic and created blog posts and engagements on social media about a month ago. A few days ago, I've had an article go viral that resulted in many high page-ranking websites linking to my website. The problem is, none of these links are referencing the exact key-word phrase I wanted, so now I have a blog post that has great trust and citation flow, however my main page has nothing. My question is this- Can all the metrics/attention that one particular blog post has been getting give juice to my website as a whole and value it in Google's eyes? Or will I have to make another epic blog post and have it be a feature on my main page to gain any traction there.

Again, I am really thankful for any input.

If you have a high quality post/page, that will definitely help to Home page as well. But there come other factors into the equation as well to beat the competition. So rather than just relying on one-post, keep giving your best and ultimately you will be there!
Also, for a brand new site/blog, it may take upto 6 months-1year to rank in top results as google may keep new ones in something called 'Sandbox' for the mentioned time period.

      Thanks for your reply.

I definitely plan on producing more sharable content. The problem with my niche is that a lot of it involved speculation at the moment, so unless I have some ground-breaking news, I won't be able to generate interest in the sharability of my site in general, but rather tid bits here and there. In any case. thanks again.

It will definitely help, but I suggest throwing a link to your main page within the article.

When Google follows all of those inbound links to your article, it will continue to follow the links that are embedded within the article. This gives those pages a percentage of the juice. So if a link to your main page is in there, it should give it an additional boost.

Anything that attracts traffic and backlinks will impact SEO, that is, the organic rankings for certain terms particularly in Google search results pages. You just need to isolate / monitor / track things so you will know if the impact is the one you desire or otherwise.

What google loves the most is an organic link structure, and references from established, so called "authority" websites.

Praise the Lord for the golden cow he sent you with this blog post going Viral, since it will in no way harm you just nurture your "authority" on the toppic. In order to profit most of it, make sure that your interlinking structure is well designed, means that even the most deep pages are reachable after 2-3 klicks. A well defined category, tag structure and tag clouds in sidebars can be pretty helpfull for that.
