Do expired domains that have been down 1+ years still have value?

I sometimes see expired domains that have been down 1-2 years by looking at the way back machine, but still have a lot of good links. Are these domains worth buying or too much of a crapshoot? Or are they devalued in some way by Google for being inactive for so long.

Curious to know what yukon and Mike Anthony have to say about this.

Thanks

I am not the two people you mention, but IMO the answer is, it depends. If you are looking to build your own PBN, the answer is maybe, depending on why they were down.

If you are starting a new site, it is probably just as valuable to get a new domain name.

I've never seen any proof that Google devalues link profiles on dropped domains. If it's a $10 domain you really don't have anything to lose testing the old URLs. Your already looking at Wayback & the old link profile so I guess those look ok (no spammy wayback pages or link blast profiles).

I would see If the old domain can index & rank pages on it's own domain before mixing it in with a link network or money page/domain.

If it still has good links pointing to it, you'll still need to check if it's being spammed to death. And also you need to check on the metrics like TF/CF & PA/DA

I'm going to disagree there. If you are already checking the links, there really is no need to check the metrics. They are not going to tell you anything the links are not telling you.
