Who told you that blog commenting is effective and Google's gives value to it? Where did you read that from? The opposite is quite the case, so look for other methods that work. Blog commenting doesn't work.

Almost all blog comments these days are no-followed. Argue if no-follow exists entirely or not, no-follow links certainly count for less.

Combine that with the fact that blog comments are often seen as spammy and it's easy to avoid.

Now, if you need to get something indexed.....then blog comments can work like a charm!

I can confirm that blog commenting has effects on an Internet Marketing campaign LEVEL.

What many of you is trying to say is that Blog Commenting has no EFFECTS in Ranking and you guys are absolutely RIGHT about it.

Before you want to start a debate with me I'd like you to consider thinking about it. Because you don't want me slapping proven facts in your face.

    1. Commenting on a Blog Site with CommentLuv enabled will help you spread your newly blog post. I wont give a "S" if it ends up getting a NoFollow or Follow. Sharing your newly blog post on FB and Twitter results in a NoFollow.
    - Consider blog commenting as one part of your social media campaign (Sharing)
    2. A higher probability to add up referral traffic in your list.
    3. Some of your target audience MIGHT stumble on your comment and MIGHT be interested to buy whatever your selling on your site.
    4. You can get ideas on what your customers want to develop a more effective product through USER Experience.
    5. By commenting on blogs RELEVANT to your site you are able to relay a message that you are a knowledgeable person on that particular NICHE and you could catch someone's attention.
    6. Etc. Etc. Figure out rest the to yourself. Hahahaha

If a certain blog post gets a #1 spot on Google with an average traffic of 10,000 a day you wish YOU can get at least 20-50 visitors/day from that blog post but you didn't comment or your comment were not approved by the admin because you're just spamming.

Blog Commenting was not, is not and will never ever help anyone when it comes to ranking in Google.

In my POV, it's not really effective as most comments now are being scanned first by moderators. If you are only posting/commenting with links on your comment then it'll sure be tagged as spam and won't even show even if you refresh the page. Probably if you are a member of some famous blog site and you become a resident poster and you really say relevant things about the post and someone becomes interested in you then I guess you get good visitors after that. But for Google ranking, blog comment don't really help so find another alternative.

I hope that was a joke. If not, well, it figures.

OP is selling a blog. Perhaps he thinks the spammed comments and links
he's getting are adding value to it.

Nobody in their right mind should accept links and comments on a money-
site blog, nor should you be wasting your time doing the same. Period.

Indeed the links which you get from this technique is mostly no-follow. Usually search engines give no value to such types of links. But still this practice is obliging for increasing the authority and getting quality traffic on your blog. Blog commenting is an essential part of blogging. Making human bonds via commenting and it is an excellent way to make new relationships with different top bloggers and online marketers. You will find many pro bloggers who use blog commenting as their weapon for growth.

But if your are focusing on Link building then you need to go for other ways like guest posting.

    Hope the answer is useful

I agree. Blog commenting is a form of link building and with any link building these days you have to be smart about how and where you build links.

I have to agree with the general consensus to blog commenting it has no value for ranking in Google

If you don't have your blog protected and the spammers find it they will come in the hundreds with useless value to any blog

I am not sure why this practice continues other than misinformation, laziness and automated software with the hopes of getting their links published

It puzzles me why so many waste their time trying to get backlinks this way when the comments are totally unrelated and offer no value to the blog

When I see a comment that someone actually leaves that has some value it elates me to know this person actually read the content and is smart enough to make a useful contribution, then I will allow their comment to be posted with their links

Then by having their links published maybe someone else will follow it giving them traffic, but other than that forget it does nothing for getting any traction with Google

The main purpose for commenting on blogs is to share your ideas, develop a relationship with the authors in your niche, to gain their respect, and boost your reputation. Google pays little attention to links which you can place yourself, so don’t centre your hopes on it. Comment on blogs if you enjoy it, but find other easier, more effective ways to boost your traffic.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[10395476].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author NewDaisy
Yeah, I can agree with goldenone1. The vast majority of blog owners mark comment links as ‘nofollow’, which effectively means that search engines ignore them.

And in my opinion, blog commenting is a major part of off page submission. It gives an ability to make a good back links and raise your website ranking. Yes, it’s difficult, but it’s worth of all the efforts.

Just curios, are you a Brain Dean graduate? Comment links are nofollow, they do nothing for your website ranking. There are some "guerrilla techniques" to get traffic to a site from comments. If done correctly, those are worth it.

For example: If the target page is trafficked, relevant, and you can get a comment that will be relatively high up on the page. Then you could leave a helpful tip and then explain there is more at your site. This might get you some clicks, not improved rankings. So if you calculate RPM, and it's > $100 then it's worth it to try to get traffic via any means, since on average clicks are 10 cents. Most blogs have an RPM of $10 or less and I wouldn't waste my time. You're leaving a comment to potentially make a few pennies.

And why do you think that this is important? Do you seriously think that Google of all companies is not capable of recognizing a crappy link from a good link?

Man, you must write some world-class comments then. People who scrolled to the comment box got mesmerized by the magnum opus you posted there, and are now queuing to see your blog masterpieces.

Or they went "meh, these comments are garbage", and couple of them accidentally clicked your link only to immediately leave your site. Take your pick.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.

Blog Commenting is the famous method of spammers in which after they commented on the blog site they will include their anchor text link even its unrelated to the content. This method must be use to include your opinion, advice, suggestion, complements, etc. and these will improve and increase the effectiveness of the content.
