Landed an in-house SEO position

So I will be the "assistant marketer" (business owner is chief marketer) for a small business that's been around for 15 years now.

The money isn't that great but the guy is basically looking for someone to take over his marketing duties completely so that he can focus all the other aspects of his business and spend more time with his family (would work after work on it usually) so if I do a good job as his assistant I can be promoted and basically be the main guy for online marketing (his sales "team" {2 guys haha} handles all the offline stuff like visiting clients/prospecting clients and making calls)

I get my own office which (other than the one in my house) I never had at a 9-5 so that's kinda cool in a superficial way haha.

Kind of weird going back to working for someone else after working for myself so long but opportunity is opportunity and if this leads to a nice stable career in doing what I do anyway it may be a good thing.

    I wonder how much such position pays. I outsource all my SEO work to India. Their prices have been steadily increasing and I wonder if I should be better off hiring someone here in the US.

      This past year I have seen more and more SEO in-house positions being posted on job sites than ever before. In fact, I barely can find short term jobs like I used to...It's mainly full time positions.

      I usually snag a client or two a year off sites like craigslist but I figured work is work so if I am hired in-house what's the difference?

      My thoughts are...

      companies are sick of getting screwed by other companies in the SEO flavor and prefer to just hire someone with the skill-set that they can keep an eye on and see what they do.

    I don't know whether to say "congrats" or "I'm sorry"....I honestly couldn't imagine taking a regular job and going to work everyday. A real office? Without the kids yelling in the background and my dog barking at the neighbor's cat? How would I ever get anything done in that kind of environment?

    Congrats though...I've come close to taking a position several times and it's always a mixed emotion. Just make the most of it and who knows, you may be running that company some day.

      I thought about this yesterday actually. I work better in my own environment rather than someone else's. I'm used to my own distractions.

      I actually have the day off today and am contemplating approaching my boss tomorrow on working from home explaining that I would be more productive that way.

        Congratulations! I am hoping your boss agrees to the option of working from home so you don't need to adjust much when it comes to your schedule.

      Haha. That's pretty funny! I know what you mean though, I've managed to leave that daily grind behind too....but it does come to mind when I think about what I would do if things were to significantly slow down for me at the home office.
