How Many Links Per Day?

Hi matthewd,

I can assure you 10 links a day is no where near too many.

You should be more concerned with making sure that your link building appears natural. Your backlinks should be from a variety of sources with varying anchor text. Your backlinks should also be to various pages on your site.

I recommend you focus on links that will bring you targeted traffic. You should be getting natural links as well. If you are not getting natural links then you should consider improving your content.

Link building should be a tactic that gets the ball rolling and natural links should eventually overwhelm your artificial link building as your traffic builds. If not, you are working way too hard for the result you are getting.

What if I am trying to rank several different pages for different keyphrases and I am getting 10 per day to each of them. Right now I am getting 10 links to 6 different pages, so 60 links to my entire domain each day total.

Is this too many, or do I still have a lot of room to go?

  Can you describe how you are getting those links? Exactly "10 a day x 6" sounds like you may be using some type of service or automation.

  It is better to get link from various sources, it will help you to rank higher. Article marketing should be a method to get target traffic, not your main link building campaign.

  1. 10 to 20 blog comments
  2. 10 to 20 directory submissions
  3. 3 to 5 article submissions

  I can tell you that 20~30 is OK. As known that the blog comment anti-spammer set 30 as their limit. Once you comment more then 30, then you will consider as spammer even you commenting accordingly.

  Ok, so you are saying that 60 links to my domain per day is way too many to be getting? It is set up on automation to submit 60 articles per day to various directories... so that is 7 days/week or 420 links/week and roughly 1,700 links/month.
  
  I just started this about 10 days or so ago, so I am not sure how long it takes for the results to kick in. Do you know how long it usually takes?
  
  EDIT: What does everyone think of this strategy: Set it to submit like 12 articles/day and do regular link building of 2-5 links per day from forums, blogs and such?

You wont get penalized for having too many links in one day. Think about it, giant upcoming firms spend millions on advertising, and probably get thousands of links each day. i think your in the clear, don't worry about it.

Just write great content for your readers, earn links without an effort.

Thanks everyone for all of the advice.

The reason I am asking about this is that I have been ranked number 3 for a long time for a certain keyword phrase that was bringing me in $3k+ a month.

This month, it has been dropping. I am down to the 7 spot and as a result, my sales have dropped like a rock. Instead of selling 2 copies a day I am selling 1 copy ever 2 days.

I am trying to save revive this ranking b/c obviously that hit really sucks.

So, the consensus here is that the articles are good but I need to supplement it with blog posts and other such things?

Best way is to have two sites and use both your strategies, and later compare it. Nobody knows for sure without really experiment with it, but my take is too many is just too many, G is smart to detect that this is not organic.

Perhaps your competitor's increased the number of links they had also. Maybe that is why you lost your spot.

Also, how long has your site's ranking been lower? If just a couple days it is probably just a shuffle.

It has been down since towards the beginning of the month, so about 7 or 8 days now.

I did a complete redesign on my site that went live on Aug 31... could this have anything to do with the drop?

Thanks for the advice everyone! I am pretty stressed about losing out on this $3k+/month ranking.

Hi,

7 or 8 days in nothing. If you redesigned your site it most likely is just gettting reindexed. If in a few weeks it isn't back up to where it was before put the old site back up.

Also you can check your google cache to see when your site was last crawled and see if it was after you did your redesign.

So, you are saying 7 or 8 days is nothing in terms of it could just bounce right back? If that is the case, I see what you are saying, but my income is down over $750 already from it... so it is still pretty disheartening.

I checked the cache on Google and it is the new site that is indexed.

I checked my links in Site Explorer and it looks like I have "lost" links. I don't know if they are no longer there or if they just aren't showing up in Site Explorer though... any experience with this?

Hi,

If you hadn't changed your site I would say 8 days is nothing to wait for it to bounce back.

But you said you changed your sight and the google cache says it is indexing the new site. Whatever you changed may of lowered your ranking. Only time will tell if it stays down.

What I would do if I was really worried about it is just change it back to the way it was then you don't have to wait to find out if it is going to get it's ranking back.

Either way I would keep building links to the site and this will eventually move it up again.

Also when you get it back up and making good money don't change it!

I think this applies in directories only. But if you are submitting or building links to some several types of websites, I think there is no problem.. especially if you are dealing with different articles.

Well this is basically also depend on what is the age of your website. If this one is new one and you start building backlinks with full pace that your site will be landed in sand box. And if this one is old and established one with enough backlinks than you can create as much as you want.

Just look at around those websites which are very popular and their backlinks are increasing at fast rate. Just take the example of Adobe.

Boy adobe have 7474500 backlinks and I am sure every day their backlinks increased because of every one want to put their URL into their website so that their visitor can easily find adobe reader.

But what happen to those fellows who hired someone for 1000 directories in a single day
