looking for advice. I have my site built into landing pages for each city I service. Would it effect my seo in a negative way if I built other landing pages with "keyword + zip code" as well as the city ones I already have or do you think it would make my city rankings worst?

for example my landing pages now are like "plumber austin tx" would it hurt to make a new set of landing pages tied directly to the zip codes like "plumber 00000 tx" as well?

Also how do you get a seo city landing page to show up for the "keyword" or "keyword near me" in the city of interest? Is making landing pages with "keyword + city" sufficient way to accomplish this or is there a trick I am unaware of?

bump for some advice

Include the keywords in the <h1> and page titles, meta descriptions, as this is one of the most important factors Google uses to determine what the page is about, especially the <h1>

<h1>Plumber Austin Tx then a separate page with different city, location, would also include the zip code on the page somewhere, possibly in the <h2>, ie almost as important.

Would make the page content different, not identical, would also internal link them together where possible (keyworded).

You may want to look at the link in this thread on page optimization, covers most things you will need, scroll down to 3rd post.

will there be any kind of penalty for having a pafe for "keyword + austin + tx" and then having a seperate landing page for "keyword + austinZIP + tx"??

That might lead to keyword cannibalisation (not a penalty, just confuses the search engines). I suggest you optimise the city page for the zip code keyword. In other words, use one landing page for both.

so would it be a good idea to write a small 2-300 word zip code optimized paragraph to put beneath the other text and maybe throw it in some head tags or will this screw up anything?
