Avoiding repeat use of keywords

I'm brand new to this forum and have joined as part of my efforts to get serious about SEO in 2015! I've got a few questions that I have not been able to find the answer to yet. My first is "How can I avoid using keywords repeatedly when it seems natural to do so?". Here's some context:
  • I've got a family of products... let's call them "Super Widgets", and within this family there is X, Y, Z, etc.
  • While there is some commonality between the products, they are sufficiently different to have a web page each.
  • I've got a general "parent" page for Super Widgets with a feature matrix which shows the differences between the products.
  • I update the Super Widgets product range every quarter and put out a press releases, which features on my website, about it.
My problem is that "super widgets" appears as keywords on all these pages and, as I understand it, this has a negative effect on search engines. My site is Wordpress/Genesis basis and uses Yoast for some SEO tips. Here's the article that Yoast refers me to:

While I could focus on making the parent page for Super Widgets the cornerstone for my site, but how can I publish press releases (with some history) without mentioning the same key words?

  • Why do you feel you cannot repeat the same keywords? I think you have been reading some bad SEO advice.

    • I've seen advice not to repeat keywords across pages in several places, including Yoast (one source do trust). Do you have any references which talk about this and say it's OK?
  • Actually you're on the wrong direction.

    You have to repeat the main keywords as many as required, which is better for SERP ranking
  • You must repeat your keywords a few times in order to get the best ranking

    Just do it in a natural way

    If you have 200 words on a page you should add your keyword phrase near the top of your page and 2 or 3 more times mixed into your content

    There is endless advice online about SEO. Generally speaking, you need to do everything you can to rank your websites.

    After you have done everything you can, only a few of your websites will rank. All of the SEO techniques in the world will not rank some of your pages for a keyword phrase.

    The best way to go about ranking websites is to do everything you can over a short period of time. [create pages quickly]

    Move on to the next page creation. The pages that you believe will rank the best, will more than likely, not rank as well as you think

    Hi, You Can Repeat your keywords in a particular content but it should not be repeated more than 3 to 5%....
  • I would say you are over complicating things. You have site about "Super Widgets" there are "X super Widgets" there are "Y Super Widgets" there are "Z super widgets."

    Lets break this down into an example we can better understand. A car. Say a Honda Civic. you have a "Honda Civic L" "LX" and "LXI"

    You then have a "Cornerstone page "Honda Civic" and that is going to point to your other pages "L" "LX" "LXI" ALL of these pages are going to have the term "Honda Civic" there is simple nothing wrong with this

    I personally have a site that is specifically built to sell Under Armour apparel. The term "Under Armour" is probably used on EVERY page on that site.. ALL 1400+ of them, and it ranks decently. There is nothing wrong in terms of SEO in doing so. Actually quit the opposite. Being so focused on a specific term, with time it starts to work in your favor.

  • Using one keyword on one page of your site too many times will have a negative effect on your rankings, using one keyword many times across your site on different pages of your site won't. That's the short and simple answer.

    • Many thanks for the feedback everyone. There's a mixture of responses there and I should point out that my question was about repeated keywords on multiple pages across a site, not within the same page. On the latter, I do find it interesting that opinion is so split - some believe keyword density is now irrelevant, others still recommend a degree of repetition. I think the latter supports a natural writing style so, as long as there is no penalty, that's what I'm going to do.

  • Repeating the main keywords is good for getting seo ranking
  • If you have a certain niche I think it is impossible to avoid the use of repeat keywords since it plays a vital part in ranking your website.

    Keyword stuffing is the essential part of the content. Your site can have 3 to 4 % of primary and secondary key words density for a single web page.
