Im building a new amazon niche website and documenting it for a case study.
I am currentky researching keywords. I think you need the highest quality of unique content and you shouldnt push it for earnings by excessive backlinking and stufg. i think building one should be a slow and steady process. The niche and keywords are the most important things.
Either way, im quite new to amazon niche websites. i read almost 30+ case studies.

Its actually not as competitive as you might think. I understand that I am not going to rank for "Xbox One" or at least anytime in the near future. BUT.. I would still target a page or 6 right at that core term.

I think the largest issue, as I see it... especially reading posts on this specific portion of the forum is the lack of vision to what will happen tomorrow. everyone is looking to get ranked yesterday.. long tail long tail long tail. That will only get you so far for so long.

Don't get me wrong, I am right there with everyone else. Hit the low laying fruit. but that's not the only fruit I target. Long term development, and creating the core base of that strategy starts in the very beginning. I would say that somewhere in the 3 to 1 ratio I create content that is long tail vs more targeted medium to high comp terms. I tend to use the medium to high comp termed articles as social share content.

"Top 5 Xbox One Games" and "Xbox One VS. Playstation 4" "Not a gamer? Xbox One may still be for you." Content like that has far more social traction than say "Xbox One for $350". No one is going to share the "Xbox One for $350" but the "Not a gamer? Xbox One may still be for you." that just has SHARE written all over it.

Please oh please do not mistake my use of social as a method to getting some fairy tale advantage with Google.. I know that to be far from the truth. what I do look for is the content to be shared by others on their sites. that is where the gain can be made - aside from the traffic that social endeavors deliver.

I run an Amazon affiliate site as a side project. It makes money, not a tonne, but enough to be called a successful project. Here are a few tips, but they aren't different to any other kind of affiliate advice.

    1. Pick The Right Niche And Products - There are many factors in deciding the "right" niche and products. Firstly, you don't want to be picking something too competitive and making the same mistake as savidge4 up above. However most importantly, pick a niche and products that you can actually sell. This means picking something you have an interest in, so that you can bare to put in the hours necessary to build a website and content that actually converts traffic.

    2. Keyword Research - I was lucky with my Amazon affiliate niche and products. Not only was there very little competition, but it was something I was also very interested in. Yet even this was not enough to get me any decent positions in Google. I had to pick out really targeted keywords before I started selling anything. Since keyword research is very in depth, I am just going to link you to a decent backlinko guide that should help - Backlinko Keyword Research

    3. Content Is King? - I left the title for this third one as a question simply because it is very controversial in this subforum. However at the end of the day, it's the content that converts, not the SEO. I started making traffic, but I was not making any sales. In the end I decided this was because my content was half hearted. I started putting time into my articles and reviews, maybe spending a couple of days (part time) research, writing and then editing each article until it was both incredibly helpful and also aimed to convert.

It wasn't until I got all these 3 things right that I started making some money from the site.

Although this is only one path to some mild success with Amazon affiliate, it definitely works. There are other ways, but for me this is the best for long term success. Hope that helps.

I'm curious, how competitive is your niche? the 2 niches I have just recently found. All 10 results and about 2 and 3 pages deep, are all amazon results pages with no back links and zero page authority. Not even the first results have page authority. It seems like the page is just ranking for convenience.

      Does any of this matter?

      P.S
I use the ahrefs and moz tool bar for seo help.

Apart From Right Niche Right Keyword and the best Content you need to get get your YT videos and your FB advertising going (FB when you are really ready and everything else is 110% completed). I still reckon YT and FB are the best SEO you can do.

    Hope this helps

So in ranking amazon niche sites. Is it primarily focused on branding factors i.e increasing page and domain authority to move your positions in search engines?

Long terms, Yes I would say so.. well that's what i do anyways. short term? you need to get sales. long tail content, mixing the branding element in there. and pound the heck out of social ( not for backlinks ) but to drive traffic to a well targeted audience.
