Do You Even Try to Build Links Any More?

Google's basic answer is just write good content that will naturally get links. I understand this and it makes sense.

Problem is some niches don't lend themselves to this philosophy for a variety of reasons. They may be too personal (people don't want to share), too competitive (the most reasonable places that would link to you are your competitors), or they are just boring.

These days do you just write good content and hope for the best? What approaches work today?

I'm not asking anyone to give away exact examples or tactics, but I'm trying to get a variety of angles, to get a discussion going. Thanks.

Link Building still plays an important role for SEO. Content is much more important, but without backlinks it won't be so easy to rank for a good keyword! It's just like a part of something big! On-Page & Off-Page SEO, Link Building, Content, etc.

Guy, if you concentrate on writing high quality content you'll do just fine okay. Also do not forget social marketing. Frequent yourself in social platforms your audience are.

  • Sure, not just build links but having top quality content.
Getting only backlinks will harm your website.

Write engaging, informative content, then try to add some quality backlinks and try to improbe your website so visitors spend more time in your website when coming from G searchs based on your targeted keywords.

That's a tough one. Most online companies pay for SEO services. Link building is a big part of SEO. Unless you are extremely lucky, natural links won't come at the beginning. You'll need to do some SEO work, and that includes link building, before the natural links follow.

its almost one of those which is more important...the backlink or the content. well we all know the content is more important. but here is the thing. you can write great content, but if no one is there to read it..whats the sense. Google says this and that and the other.. ok who cares what they say, lord knows I don't.

The reality is this. Most of us are NOT in a write it and they will come environment. That means you have to reach out and put your content out there in one form or an other. it could be the use of social to draw traffic. it could be guest posting, it could be forum posting, it could be could be could be. Then there is back linking. If you do not have the time and the needed amount of ability to do the afore mentioned methods.. then back linking is your only choice.

Any and every method takes time and practice. you will not be the best back link builder ever the first 100 times you do it. you will not be good at drawing traffic from social the first 1000's of times you try. I apparently suck at drawing forum traffic cuz none of you monster suckers click the link in my signature LOL. Some how some way I will get better at it!

Go with what you know, and develop the other methods at the same time. and if you don't know any of these methods.. well the you pay someone.. and if you are shoe string budgeting.. well god bless you and start reading LOL

Don't even bother with link building apart from sharing out great content to social media... Does that count as link building?

As people have already said here, quality back-linking is definitely is good way to rank up in Google. But there are other ways of getting noticed.

I believe that if you can provide quality to people in any way, it's bound to get seen somewhere at some point. From here it might spread, since people often appreciate quality and want to share it so that other people might see it.

Just optimize your website for Google, get going on social networks (stumbleupon is a good tool), try guest posting on relevant websites, comment on relevant articles and so on. Keep producing quality and you'll hopefully see things go your way.
