Hi everyone,

I have a question in regards to choosing keywords. Im still relatively new to this whole digital marketing thing and would like to know whether I should target keywords using my city name ie Toronto Construction Company as opposed to just Construction company. Will google localize the search for you? Meaning that adding Toronto or my location in general would be rendered useless?

What should the keywords I use be? Localized or not? Any help is much appreciated

If your a construction company is operating in Toronto then YES you should target your local area. Ranking in search engines for construction will do you no good if customers are only based locally within lets say a 60 mile radius. I would focus primarily on your city for most of your SEO work. One way you can do this is add a Google Map with your address to your contact page or information page. You can also add yourself to directories and review sites like Yelp ect.. Good luck!

    Yes.

Secondly, start reading on local SEO and citations. You'll want to be encouraging reviews on all the major sites, while making sure your contact info is correct on them as well-

Yes. The keyword construction company is a competitive keyword so using your city name added in the keyword will be beneficial. Focus on local SEO first, it's better to start that way since you are targeting consumers around your area.

Try making keyword of your company with your city is good idea. it save you from global competition and you have to do less effort for ranking.

You'll also want to use code from schema.org on your site for your name, address and phone number (NAP). You can grab the code here: LocalBusiness - schema.org

Then make sure you use the same exact company NAP in your citation sites.

Yes. Also, write pages for the keywords + suburb name or keywords + neighborhood name.

Google keyword tool says there's no traffic for small city + keywords. Google analytics on my sites strongly disagrees with Google's keyword tool.

For some, it's a question of getting only 2 visitors a month from a suburb + keyword; for some suburb + keyword it's another 20 or 30.

You do all the suburbs/neighborhoods you cover and pretty soon you're talking real traffic.
