Can you protect your SEO?

Is there a way to hide your seo strategy? If you do the work to rank a site someone could just use tools like Majestic and Moz to learn your entire strategy for backlinks, keywords, etc.and copy or easily beat it. I'm creating a site for a term that gets about 2k searches a month, not a whole lot but figured ranking is doable. I've got a quality expired domain (aged and DA), and good content. It seems like if someone in the same niche that is already ranking for similar terms sees that I'm passing them for one they could do some basic research and find the terms I am ranking for and easily make a page to beat mine, being that they are already up there for similar terms. Am I over thinking it?

    If Benz Patent Motor, the first car makers in the world were thinking about competitors. We wouldn't have been were we are today.

    It's a big world and lots of market to explore.

    Besides, we are just talking about 2k search a month here.
