Are black hat techniques frowned upon here?

I have sites ranking well using both black and white hat techniques.

I just joined a couple days ago and the vibe I'm getting here is that you guys are mostly the by the book type that Matt Cutts would like to have a drink with.

Any truth in the vibe I'm getting? I just want to get a feeling of what this forum and the people here are all about before I go handing out advice.

    I would say its all shades of grey... there seems to be that line where grey becomes to dark LOL

    White hat is Search engine friendly very hard to get the keywords on the 1st page of search results. Black hat and Grey hat SEO are not search engine friendly without follow the guidelines bringing the keywords on search results that helps you at present. Once search engine finds out mark you site as a spamming. So BE CARE FULL

    This is largely a whitehat forum but blackhat techniques are discussed here at times. I also give out advice based on blackhat SEO techniques when it's necessary.

    I think if you clearly define the technique as white or black hat, you'll be fine. The problem occurs when you give blackhat advice when whitehat advice has been asked for.

    I don't think I have ever seen a real black hat discussion here.

    Lots of people think that mass commenting, article submissions, and wiki posting are black hat techniques. To me, those are just spam methods.

    Real black hat is more doorway pages, cloaking, etc. in my mind.

        Not sure what you are getting at. I wasn't deriding black hat marketers.

        I was just pointing out that people use the term black hat to usually mean link spammers (especially here), but that is not what real black hats are doing. They are much more advanced than that.

          I think black hat is way off to a far extreme somewhere.. there are without questions shades of grey. I knew that Google considers "Doorway Pages" to be black hat.. but seriously.. door way page - seo targeted lander page.. is there a difference? but we use landing pages like its our higher power given birth right LOL

          Now cloaking.. well that may cross the line a bit I guess, but I just shared a method to this in one of the silo discussions. If Google cant see it, well it cant be wrong... that makes it black hat dont it?

          I kinda of draw the line somewhere in the realm of jacking and malicious intent kind of stuff.

          We are talking Google here. Affiliate marketing as far as they are concerned is Black Hat.

          I just cant see calling link spamming and all of that stuff black hat.. its not.. that's just long term STUPID.

            I agree, It is not black hat in my opinion, but it was 99% of the members here would call black hat.

    Blackhat is dangerous method to get ranked in SERP, if any search engine found your site as spamming, then it won't appear forever.
    White hat system works forever and even helps to find great advertisers for you.

      Black hat happens...people just don't always talk about it that much.

      In my flagship business projects, I will never cross that line because I don't want to jeopardize it nor do I want to sully the good name of the projects.

      However, for my offbeat projects it's a different story. Sometimes pushing the boundaries to see what you can get away with, well, that's just part of human nature. But I keep that stuff separate.

      I find that a lot of people don't want to talk about it too openly because it's a lot like politics, religion and sex...you never know who you will offend by talking about it. So in the end you don't just to play it safe.

      Anyway, I think many here have a black hat in the back of their IM closet, it's a question of how often it gets worn is all...

    Well, most of the guys in here want to make money in the long-term, and blackhat isn't the way do that. You leave your website alone for a month, Matt Cutts cuts you and cuts your black hat.

      If you know what you are doing, you can make money with blackhat SEO consistently and for the long term, but not with one site, though. Even when using whitehat methods only, having only one website can threaten your income.

      Ironically, I actually sell white hat SEO services on a lot of the black hat forums.

      Thanks for all of the responses. I had an account here awhile back. I rarely used it and it was so long ago that I can't even remember the login information. My money site is all white hat (and always will be) but most of my other projects lately have been on the dark side It's quick money and I am well aware that it is not going to last forever

    Using black hat seo methods is always risky. Maybe that's why I rarely see such topics around here, they're mostly considered tabu, I guess.

    Black hat SEO, I can't say it is completely bad. Sometimes it is very useful for ranking a website. Yeah, too much blasting of back links are harmful for your site.

    Well, their is no rule what is white hat or black hat. The only rule "what google like, what google ranks?"

    What today Google likes may not be same tomorrow. Once matt is for Guest post and he recommended it. Now they don't like Guest post. So its all come down what google likes or don't like.

    Just stay under radar and learn from other mistakes. Inpast, I read so may white hat sites been penalized during panda and penguins update and so many Black hat site escaped too during same time.
