What is the best keyword density for a particular keyword on a page? Also, if the keyword appears to many times is there a negative effect on SEO?
#search engine optimization #density #keyword #optimization
  • It will impact your SEO negatively if it's mentioned too many times (google will see it as overoptimized)

Do not worry too much about density, rather try to put there LSI, and related synonyms, etc.

If you don't know what you are doing, then don't just stuff KW's...

That's all I can say for now..

EDIT: by don't worry about density doesn't mean you can put 10 times same KW in 500 words article and not to worry!
  • Yes keyword over optimization can negatively impact your on page SEO.

However in a video concerning this very subject, Matt Cutts (leader of google's quality team) basically explained that keyword density is not something you should be intentionally thinking about.

Simply write and produce content in a way in where you are unaware of the existence of keyword density and then it wouldn't be a problem. Keyword density is essentially a problem internet marketers have created.
  • Over optimising can cause you problems, but don't worry about measuring exact keyword densities. Instead make sure you're using key phrases in title tags and h1 and h2 tags.

Also use related key phrases in your content.

    • Here's what's hurting your SEO....listening to people crow on
about something as useless as keyword density.

If you are worried about keyword density, even just thinking
about it, is a tip off that you are not thinking about the right things.

Nobody in their right mind would or should ever worry about keyword density.

  • A lot of great points have been addressed already.

To sum it up in the simplest of ways, use the word naturally within your content without overusing it.

If you really want some specifics simply use this formula per 500 words:

    - Once in the 1st paragraph
    - 2-3 times within the body
    - Once in the final paragraph

The key is just simply be natural but there is some strategy behind it.

Someone mentioned LSI/related terms. This is definitely a great strategy but only use the ones that make sense. Some of the terms that will come up will make absolutely no sense and so if you use it in your content it will ruin it.

If you don't know how to find the LSI/related terms simply go to Google.com type in your keyword term and search it. Then scroll all the way to the bottom and you will see *Searches related to Your Keyword Term*

    Hope that helps!

    • I would say that even this is excessive. you are forgetting the need to have the term once in the URL, once in the title, once in the description tag, once for the image name, and once in the image alt. <-- all of these I would consider to be more important than 5 times in the text. I might suggest ONCE in the first paragraph, once in the middle and once towards the end.

You have to remember with density there is also "Proximity" at play. and loading the document up top heavy is not always a good thing.
  • you should use the keywords just 2-3 times for better result else it may produce negative impact.

  • Yeah keyword density is important factor of Seo. You have tools to check keyword density on each article . Clearly, use 3 to 5 main keywords in 500 words article ..
  • Seems keyword density is as controversial as ever. Here is how I view it.

Does it hurt to make sure your targeted keywords have a density of 3%? No it doesn't. So why not make the effort? As long as it doesn't make your content bad and seem spammy, then go for it. Worst that happens is that it makes no difference, and you waisted about 2 minutes of your life. Best that happens is that it does make a difference and you gain a position or two in the SERPS.
