I have been seeing some Pinterest posts and boards ranking on the first page for some search terms. Has anyone here tried to use Pinterest for SEO rankings?

Yeah pinterests and tumblr naturally get high rankings on google even without backlinks.

They have the tendency to rank better than original sites with content and backlinks simply based upon their domain authority.

As long as you have links to your site from reputable sites online, that is going to be good for you, even if its in terms of being mentioned there.

Pinterest can be a nice source of traffic and even for finding new relationships for your business.

And its nice to have a well rounded presence on major social media sites.

This is what I was going to say. Pinterest can really generate a ton of nice traffic to your website and links because it basically is a viral structure that absorbs an enormous amount of users who are in relation to your topic/niche. The people are active everyday and you can comment, fave, and re-post pins that can be re-pinned from other peoples boards. One pin can generate 1000's of leads so imagine if you just had a few pins that could generate that amount. Now your talking 5000-1000 visitors or more just from a few seconds of pinning.

And you add SEO on top of that - WOAH!

Tumblr and Pinterest have high Domain Authority and if you create a page with a long-tail keyword in the title or just have the designated keyword in the url it has the ability to reach the first or 2nd page without even building backlinks actively.

Sometime even medium competitive keywords can rank on page 2-4 without active backlinking particularly for tumblr. This also use to work more so with wordpress, hubpages, and blogspot blogs, but not as much anymore.

I think it's worth setting up a profile and linking to your site on Pinterest. To go along with that, get a couple dozen pins put out there linking back. I don't think you need to go crazy with backlinks from them, but a nice chunk should be good to mix in with your other backlinks.

Pinterest is image focused website and I think clothing as well as other trending stuff will be best for this site. It depends on the website needs.

Pinterest is good for those who have plenty of pictures or infographics to share. If you have only contents and then go start creating images related to your contents, after join pinterest and share your images over there.

Hello AndrewAdamSmith, Pinterest would definitely get some SEO ranking based on the fact that it has got a strong domain authority and secondly, these images get a lot of social shares......and we all know that Google is paying attention to social shares there days.

Pinterest is completely NoFollow these days, however it is easy to get a Pinterest page to rank, and then link back to your website from the images, which passes no domain authority, but does bring in customers.

Just I have seen your website (signature) where no alexa rank or page indexed. So you need to create high page rank backlinks from apple, amazon, digg, microsoft etc sites.

I did this a couple of years back, found out that tech/gadgets niche didn't really get good feedback/traffic from Pinterest. I assume it's still the case today

Everyone should learn it doesn't matter if there is nofollow tag. Login to your webmaster tools and locate your referrers. You'll see a lot of nofollow, meaning Google isn't passing the "juice" but it damn sure knows that those links are pointing to you

You people are so full of nonsense.

Why on earth would your pinterest crapola be so easy to rank?
Like, it does not compete with the rest of the junk out there?

That somehow working on pinterest is magical, so forget about
working on and getting links to your real money site?

That nofollow social shtuff like pinterest helps with SEO is just
      mind numbing nonsense.

Do you people actually read what you write?!?!?!
No way. There's just no way.

Pinterest is great from this point of view. At first, I have to admit, I thought it was a waste of time but as it turns out, Pinterest is such a great source of traffic and, yes, sometimes it's possible to find pins while doing a google search.
