  • Hello OP.

Ethical link building is the creating or building of high quality to your websites using ethical or white hat methods.

    Some include;

    1) Effective guest posting
    2) Social Media engagements
    3) Link outreach
    4) Broken link building
    5) Creating quality and engaging infographics

These are just some ethical link building methods. If want to know what constitutes a high quality backlink, then check out this awesome post: What Everybody Ought to Know About Link Building in 2015.

  • You can get natural backlinks without actively "chasing backlinks" by creating a plethora of content with long tail keywords in the header title.

Naturally overtime due to its niche nature, creating content with long-tail keywords generate backlinks on their own due the demand in search engines simultaneously coupled with the lack of significant competition. Thus you will be the only resource for the obscure sources

But again this must be done consistently and with a pretty significant amount of content.
  • Forget about ethics. It's either you are whitehat or blackhat. Whitehats follow all the Google guidelines but not perfectly in most cases. Blackhats ignore all the rules and that's the category I belong to. You can also be both at the same time by creating both whitehat and blackhat sites.
  • If you are posting a link somewhere to your site. Ask yourself this one question. Would the people viewing that page be happy that your link is there? If yes, then it's "ethical". If no, then it is spam. Easy peasy.
  • I dont get how link building can be unethical.... I mean its a link. No matter what type of link it is, its a link at the end of the day. Just because one link might be automated doesn't mean that your a bad person and are unethical.

The only time it crosses a line is when you get into sqli....
  • Ethical link building ethics are those which helps in providing high quality external links to the website. This include
    1.Good quality article sites,social bookmarkings
2.High pr profile links, high pr social media websites..

  • Putting links manually and do not use any software to generate automated backlink, also only drop link when it is necessary and relevant to the topic discussed.
  • Unless they gave the internet human rights and civil liberties while I was away last weekend. What in the world had link building have to do with Ethics?

Causing harm, loss or injury to a person is unethical. Where's that's fitting in quantifiably to building backlinks, I don't know. Are you referring to hacking for links?, I guess that's got an ethical side to it. But I'd use criminal law to fight against that over cultural varying ethical values.

There is no Mr & Mrs Google

  • This is something I have been struggling with for ages. Sometimes it feels like the concept of ethical link building just does not exist. The one thing that has worked with me in the past with a guitar blog is forming a group of bloggers/ website owners in a similar niche and frequently doing guest posts in each others sites.

    • It doesn't. Smart and useful ways of building backlinks do exists. Useful = they get you rankings that you don't lose fast.

    • Most of the answers here are based on the assumption that breaking Google's rules is always unethical.

There's nothing intrinsically unethical about placing your needs above Google's needs, people! You could do it in an unethical way, I understand, but not adding a nofollow tag to a link is not it. Publishing badly written content and making it rank ahead of well-written content is not in and of itself unethical, even if you buy a link or two or create pages that link to yours with spun content.

Nothing unethical about spun content, either, by the way.

    • Full Definition of ETHIC (from Merriam Webster)

1 plural but sing or plural in constr : the discipline dealing with what is good and bad and with moral duty and obligation

      2 a : a set of moral principles : a theory or system of moral values <the present-day materialistic ethic> <an old-fashioned work ethic> --often used in plural but singular or plural in construction <an elaborate ethics> <Christian ethics>
b plural but sing or plural in constr : the principles of conduct governing an individual or a group <professional ethics>
      c : a guiding philosophy
      d : a consciousness of moral importance <forge a conservation ethic>

3 plural : a set of moral issues or aspects (as rightness) <debated the ethics of human cloning>It is not a natural way of building links, either. The natural way of building links is this: you put up a website and wait. Random people somehow find your site and link to it. Anything else is not natural but manipulated in some way.

White hat involves less manipulation or manipulation in ways Google objects to less strongly than it does to black hat methods.

Unethical ways of getting backlinks would involve things like hacking someone's site and placing a link to your site. If you're doing lots of forum posting or posting lots of badly written, then spun, articles you're not doing something unethical.

Black has methods might be something stupid or something smart, depending on your goals and the results you're getting.

If you're looking for long term rankings, to build long-lasting streams of income, white hat is smart, but neither ethical nor unethical.

  • Some ethical methods of link building are :

    1) Blog posting with unique attractive and info-graphics content
    2) Social Sharing
    3) Posting on high PR Articles and Bookmarking Sites .
    4) Guest Posting

    • I'm surprised that it took this long for someone to post this same old rehashed crap again. "Ethical methods - post low quality spam articles".

I do consider increasing the volume of crap to be somewhat unethical, because it hinders everyone else's ability to find their way around the web just for someone's profits. Google's TOS is just their wish list, it's got nothing to do with this. Although it didn't just come out of vacuum: they're trying to keep their advertising marketplace in action, which is why spam is bad for them, which is why their TOS basically aligns with what I wrote above.
