Targeting long-tail keyphrases, changing/adding just one word, and ranking higher than competition

For my specific city, Google keyword tool tells me the key phrase "hoop earrings for women" gets searched 30 times per month. When I search this phrase myself, I see that only one page turns up with a title that is close to this, it reads: "hoop earrings woman". This result is at the top of the SERP, and the other 9 results are what appear to be authority domains. My question is, if I make one page on my non-authority site targeting "hoop earrings FOR women", will I rank number one?

Note: my tactics will include putting the key phrase in the URL file name, in the H1 tag, in the first paragraph of the content, and in the image alt tag.

The search engines, especially Google, use different metrics such as domain age and backlinks to rank sites besides the actual keyword.

I conducted an "allintitle" search on Google like this: allintitle:"hoop earrings for women" and the keyword is being used by well over 100 websites.

It would be very hard to even place on the first page for this keyword. However, anything's possible given enough time and effort.

      Hi,
how do you do an allintitle search:
      allintitle: "keyword"
      allintitle: keyword
      [allintitle: keyword]
trying to find the right info...

      thanks

You won't rank number 1. It's difficult to beat authority sites even if they aren't targeting your exact keyword.

"hoop earrings for women" and "hoop earrings women" is identical in Google's eyes. The "for" is just a stop word that gets ignored.

What Jonathan said is correct. You can't rank no. 1 only by optimizing your page for those keywords, but if you put your mind to it, you might get close, if you wisely use some other SEO techniques.

Not sure what your city is, but are the titles of the other 9 results (authority domains) shown in Google exact match or are they not very relevant to 'hoop earrings for women'?

hello dear, If some authority websites are ranking according to your specific keyword and you are looking to rank your new and single page whatever you apply on it like H1 and etc. You can achieve the ranking but you have to do a lot of hard work like you have to get links from quality and authority websites so that you could beat your competitors.
