Post or Page. That is the question!

Hi everyone, I'm in the process of building a niche site that will act almost like a product review site. I'm debating whether to include my reviews in a blog style or simple page style.

What are the pros/cons of simply publishing one page with 10 reviews opposed to one page with 10 blog posts each on a different product as far as SEO is concerned for my website?

  • Both work. Really depends on how far you want to go in depth. You could have 10 super long 1000 word reviews based on certain products or you could have 1 page listing them all. Just depends on what kws your trying to go after and what makes sense
  • I would say go with one post per product review.
If you have one page with too many reviews on it, readers will get bored scrolling down, while with posts, they will be able to focus on the one review, the one that interests them.
  • Posts are better. Make sure you review one product per post if you want better conversion rates.

    • Ah interesting. Excuse the lack of knowledge on my part, but how exactly does one product per post ensure better conversion rates??

  • I would also suggest you to go with one post with one product review. In post you can allow your readers to share their experience in comment box, which certainly make your post more popular and engaging.
  • Id recommend you use the 10 blog post for 10 different products because you can be able to talk more about the products which will significantly increase their rank in Google and in Traffic also.

    • Hmm the general consensus seems to be that posts > pages. Anyone here on the side of pages rather than posts?
  • I would say, If you are planning to post reviews go for Posts not pages, There is no different in SEO value but there will be difference How they will appear on Google. In post you can use User Ratings, Your Rating but with Pages it won't appear on Google if you are using wordpress.
  • Agree, posts are better than pages for this sort of thing. Pages would become extremely hard to manage as you got more and more of them. Sticking with posts will give you more flexibility in the long run when you want to add more content!
  • I would do different pages (like a blog), so I can easily add a different product later

  • I think most of us are voting for posts on this one, but if you need another reason: Tags and Categories can also be leveraged natively in Posts (speaking of Wordpress), and if used appropriately, can really help your organic search efforts. Pages don't have this feature built in.

    • not really true, it can be tweaked without problems. SEO Yost says, pages are better. I have no proof of that, but he is certainly an authority

  • Pages for static pages that will stay around for the long term of the site. Contact us, about us, etc.

    Posts for everything else.

    • Exactly what I thought!

OP, I'd recommend you to use Post for your product reviews

Google could care less, both Post & Page are web pages.

  • I assume we are talking about WordPress.

SEO wise there's no real difference between a WordPress Post or a Page, Google treats them equally.

In WordPress terms Posts tend to have more features available to play with, you can add post links automatically in multiple ways via widgets: recent posts, popular posts etc... and they are added to categories and tags. With pages to link to them tends to require manually adding links, so if working with pages you have to put more effort into the SEO making sure they are all linked.

So it depends on the site and how much effort you want to put into the SEO. Want full control over how everything is linked together, pages are better. Have a huge site and want to forget about some of the internal linking and it's posts.
