Needing a little help with a SEO decision.

Hey guys, So I found a niche with a main keyword of around 8000 searches a month and 50-55 related keywords ranging from 8000 -1200 searches a month.

I've checked 80% of the keywords and they all rank from 15-34 average keyword competitiveness.... The problem is the top 10 for most of them is dominated by big brands but then I also see a lot of old dead sites in some of the top 10s.

I've checked the on page SEO scores for the top 10 sites for my main keyword and they all range from 11% - 22%, that's low to me compared to what I've seen in the past.

My question is would it be worth trying to get on the front page or am I wasting my time due to the big branded names? I don't care about number 1 spot but would like to be in the top 8 to make it worth my while.

When I mean dominated by big brands it's dominated by their pages and products not the home page so that indicates to me that I might have a bit of a chance since the big guys usually don't worry about SEO to their inner pages.

Some details below of the main keyword and site in 1st spot, I'm planning to build an authority site with social media backing etc but SEO would be my main priority first and build up natural links etc.

Regards

I personally wouldn't recommend, you can't really compete with big branded sites.. Even thought they have low monthly searches you will hardly outrank for example site like avira.com or similar brands. Especially if your link building strategy isn't good enough. Find some long tail keywords with no brand sites or just move to other niche. It's not worth your time, there are other keywords that you can rank with little or no effort.

My main keyword is long tail and I have a list of about 30 Long Tail but they also have big brands in them. Think ill move on but the problem is some people says it's easy to outrank brands sometimes because of lack of SEO then some people say it's hard.

I personally have outranked brands before but in this case I just want to get on the front page and the big brands are only really in the top 5 (some keywords they are dominating all 10 spots). So my question really is would, I have a chance of getting on the front page.. I'm not worried about the position
