Can I outrank this site on links alone?

I found a keyword that I'm interested in.

When I put the keyword in Google the top site (page 1 position 1) has 235 pages and 25 backlinks coming in.

I can add 30 or 60 of Angela's links easily enough, but I'm not sure I can (or want to) create 235 pages. Most of the links are from a bookmarking site called Netvouz.

My question is, can I outrank this site on links alone? Or am I going to have to put up 235 pages of content also?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

It's hard to tell cuz you haven't given enough info about the competing site...like...the url.

I could be a number of reasons that they show in the engines in the position they are showing.

It could even be showing on the first page because of a geographic area and have nothing to do with linking. If I used the same keyword phrase from where I'm at, I may not even be able to find the page at all.

Or...it could be because of good onpage seo...the kind that has nothing to do with linking either.

Like I said...more info on the competing site and we could tell you in which areas it can be beat.

    25 Backlinks is nothing.

Go to SocialMarker.com use that to socially bookmark your site and all it's pages.

It is grunt work but it has to be done.

After that, find a forum in your niche. Use that for backlinks. Socially Bookmark the backlink to get it indexed by google.

Find a popular news site/blog that allows comments on your niche. Make sure it allows links and that they are do-follow. Post comments on stories and anchor text your links to your keywords. Make them contextual so that you don't get banned or your post deleted.

I find that it works really really well because news sites carry high PR and Google spiders them often so that your link will get indexed quicker.

You can get 25 backlinks alone in Social Marker.

But this is only if you want to compete.

    To win you must:
    • Have an equal or greater keyword density (not that important to be greater)
    • Have links that are anchored to your keywords
      Code:
      <a href="http://yoursite.com">your keyword</a>
    • The keyword should appear in your url, title tag, description tag, and also in heading tags
      Code:
      <h1>your keyword</h1>
    Hope this helps

Getting more backlinks will always help but SE also consider the 'authority' of the website while ranking them. If you site is new, it might take longer to match the authority of that competing site.

Further, it depends on the on-page optimization of your site and the off-site link building strategy as aptly laid out by Ericmartinez.

Sure you can - ranking is mostly about links, you just have to make sure these are strong ones.
