Hi SEO Experts,

I have a client that does really well from organic search. In fact they get multiple listings on page 1 for lots of keywords. Take look:

How is this happening?

We are about to switch to a new site, which will have a different structure. We will of course setup 301s but do you guys have any other tips or experiences with this?

Any comments much appreciated.

It is getting good preference due to local search (google uk) with .co.uk domain.
The search results are not similar in google.com version.

If they are doing really well with traffic from organic search, you better have a really good freaking reason for changing their site structure. A new web design is fine, but you said you are doing more than that. You are changing to a different structure.

Likely, you are going to pretty much destroy a lot of their rankings. Setting up 301's is not enough if you are changing how the site is structured and how the internal links work on the site.

You really should hire an SEO that knows what they are doing to consult with before you make these changes. I'm sorry, but it sounds like you are about to wreck someone's business.

Nothing wrong with upgrading a site. The part that worries me is the changing the structure. That will likely have a big impact on rankings.

Of course, if they are ranking in spite of having bad site structure, it might actually help.

With listings like that, I'm doubting that is the case though.
