Hi there,

I'm new here but plan to stay around and participate.

ICan require me to verify my domain due to some changes, I had not done so by the requested date and my website went offline, it was offline for about 3-4 hours.
Prior to this, I was ranked anywhere from 1-3 on page one on Google search for the respected keywords, now my site is no where to be found. This only happened a dayago. Will my rankings restore due to the temporary offline issue?
Thanks

They should do, but it could take a while, use Google Webmaster tools to go and fetch your site, i.e. send Googlebot to go and crawl it.

I've just done that.. I'll see, I know It could take a day or a week or more, I get it.

But just for my piece of mind - google lost the website because it was not "active" correct?
I never had any issues with it in 5 years up until now, and this is the first time the site was not active. So its an obvious answer I guess, but just want some re-assuring lol.

        Hi,

I have never heard of google dropping a website because it was down for a few hours. Even Facebook has had outages and the googlebot just comes back in 24 hours to re-check. You can see this if you have google analytics on your site as they log all the visits and results.

You could have lost the rankings if the page Google received when the site was down indicated a permanent removal or possible 'scam' site (ie: not validated domain.)

If the site is back up and valid then you should be able to get your rankings back, but you may need to use some SEO tools to re-ping it and do some backlinking to boost Googles view of it again.

What would you suggest to re-ping it?

p.s I was reading on a different forum as well, someone had the same thing happen to them when their website expired because a bad credit card on file for his renewal, he mentioned his site was gone and back up on google in a week.

    Thanks

    For anyone wondering:

My page returned back to the original first page #1-3 ranking for the respected keywords in 2 days.

I used Google webmaster tools to "fetch as google" and then I submitted my index again, I did this about 8 times. I then removed and re-added my sitemap.xml within the google webmaster tools as well. I also re-submitted my URL to google just in case - so I basically did every "quick" thing to send a signal back to google some how.

Anyways, rest assured - if your in the same situation, it will be back but do the above steps and it "might" speed up the process.

Glad to hear your website is OK and up and running. Thanks for the details as well! I had never encountered such problems before and it's always nice to learn from someone's experience, even if it was a bad one..

Also glad to hear it came back. I was going to say, it should come back but could take a couple days for Google to update across all their data centers.

Good to know your website is back!
Like what everyone said, yes, your ranking is not lost forever. Google should be able to put you back into the rankings once its done crawling your website again.
