Fighting bad seo with good seo....

Anyone have thoughts on this topic?

For example if a bad seo gave a website 10 too many bad links do you think good seo such as strategies that cam get solid links can help the site prevent damage from something like a penguin update?

It seems like it would be on some kind of scale cause surely huge sites must get lots of weird links regularly.

Cheers

The big websites would get spammy links, but they would have ALOT more better links pointing to their site organically.

That's basically what I mean though. Fighting bad seo or links with good seo and links.

They likely wouldn't really cancel each other out until there are huge completely massive amounts of them. For example, Facebook has millions of links. Some from top quality sites like CNN and FOX, others probably from spam comments and huge spam pages on the web.. At a point like that, the good ones beat the bad ones. The main reason I would say is because of all those really high quality links from Washington Journal..CNN....ABC...those huge sites have really good authority which is what cancels out the bad. If you're site isn't one of those top ones then some bad links could definitely hurt. You probably don't have the authority to rule them out.

With algorithm filters like Penguin, John Mueller has said there is a tipping point where the good will outweigh the bad and vice versa.

That is coming from John though, so take it for what it's worth.
