What's up with this... should you put keyword phrases in the anchor text within links to your site? Or just use "click here" or "this site" or whatever. What works now?
#anchor #backlink #keywords #text

There is no doubt..Keyword phrases in the Anchor text works.

This works for both Search engines as well as the reader. If you put the keyword phrase in the anchor text, a reader will know what the link is about rather than just "Click Here" or "Go to the site".

    Thanks,
    Sky

    Wrong.

You can very much get into big trouble with Google for having too many exact match keywords in your anchor text and it's called over-optimization.

best practices call for a diverse link profile with different types of links. For example:

    - Anchor text that says [yourdomain.com]
    - Anchor text that says [Your Company Name]
    - Anchor text that has natural phrases such as "click here," "learn more," and "visit our website"
    - A small percentage of keyword links

If you try to hyperlink too many keywords, Google can penalize you for over-optimization.

He means that only 10% of his hyperlinks are keywords. The rest are diversified, like in the above example.

I am a fan of using many phrases relating to my target keywords in the anchor text of my links. The reason for it though has nothing to do with any belief that Google punishes sites for using keywords too much in anchors of links. That is mostly a BS myth.

You can find tons of sites that go against this belief ranking just fine.

If I built the world's greatest mortgage calculator, embedded it on a webpage, and did nothing but white hat promotion of the page, is it not likely that the vast majority of the links I attract are going to contain the anchor text "mortgage calculator"?

And Google is going to punish me for that?

Using diverse anchors does not protect you from penalties for building crappy links. That is what Google will punish you for.

I use diverse anchor though just to give search engines additional information about what my webpage is about. If I give Google 10 different ways in which I describe what my page is about, I have a better chance of ranking for my primary keywords as well as a lot of long tail keywords, including ones I probably never would have thought of. Google's understanding of LSI is pretty amazing.

If you want to build your backlinks which looks natural to Google, the anchor texts of your backlinks should include your website URL, brand name, domain name and many other keywords which is not directly connected with your main targeted keywords.

Just think out the way that you are building 20 links from say 10 sites. Now you can diversify your anchor text across those different sites instead of using much variations in single article.

Using a combination of main keyword, secondary keyword and anchor text is the best way of creating backlinks. Only keyword stuffing can harm to your website.

  • Whatever you do don;t use things like "click here" that's a no no in googles eyes

"Click Here" as a link is a Google no-no? Why on earth does that matter?

    Hi,

Using Click here, this site etc will not give any effect ...Using keyword for anchor text will increase your search value, which in turns help you to obtain high rank in SERP for your keyword.

He he, I remember ... once the Adobe.com was number 1 for the keyword "Click here", now fell to # 3.
But the question is the same, and the answer is - we need a lot of different anchors.

Anchor Text works for keyword ranking as it is best method to have SEO on our websites or blogs. I have linked so many links within article or article below.

Anchor text brings something in ranking, but read more nothing, so using anchor text will help in SERP.

You can use 'click here' or you can use your website's name or title to the article you're linking to, as long as you don't exaggerate with the keywords! Personally, I have always used the second option I mentioned, I don't like using the "click here" method, but that's a personal preference more than anything else.

Build links for your targeted keywords, include domain name, keywords like - click here, visit website.
Don't build links only putting exact keywords in anchor text.
