Is one long page okay/better for SEO?

I have done well with single, long page copy, but it's a narrow niche. I am talking about SERPs. And if long page copy is good or great, do you think it is okay to regularly add copy? Say it's 500 words to start with. What if I added more copy from time to time to continually expand it? And if so, does it matter where it is on the page, or do you need to add new copy to the bottom of the page?

For instance, a hypothetical example could be a site that has to do with real estate. Say you start with a page about your company/service relative to one U.S. state you operate in and over time, you keep adding pertinent copy to that one-page site for other states. You could have general info at the top of the page and toward the bottom, more info about each state.
#long #okay or better #page #seo

I met a guy once at an SEO meetup that created massive "tower pages" to get traffic from the search engines. Not everyone agreed with that approach though. Search engines will factor in things like time on site and usability.

I'd say that as long as the resource is useful to readers, then it should be fine. What I do with really long content pages is break them into sections so that it is easier for people to find what they are looking for. I've expanded long posts and made them longer or updated them. Just update it where it makes sense, as long as you are adding something useful to it.

Yes, it is fine as long you update the site at regular interval.
I would suggest you to start a blog within the site.

A blog is good for SEO? How often should you write a post?

Really? More than twice a week? Is this a pretty well known "requirement" to get SEO boost?

Do you have to have visitors engaging in your blog (comments) or is it okay to just write content?

Lastly, does Google "care" whether you call it "blog" or if it's just additional content on a fairly regular basis?

Of course a blog is good for SEO. It's frequently updated content, with keywords in it. Hence... SEO
Updating it at least 3-4 times a week (so, more than 2 times, you can write something everyday, or every 2 days, just don't let too many days pass by with no new articles) would be a good idea.
Google doesn't care what you call it, as long as you do't violate anything, in terms of SEO (like, don't do keyword stuffing, just an example).

Content should be niche specific, as much relevant as possible. It should contain LSI keywords and also important things which should be updated frequently.

The copy on a page should be as long as it takes to solve the visitors question.

    An example:
If they search "how to rank on Google", the length of content should be as long as it takes to explain - how to rank on Google.

Always think about your visitor before Google or SEO when writing content.

Regarding the length of content. Pages that are above 1,000 words tend to perform better as long as the copy is of real value. As a guide, make sure all pages are at least 300 words long.

If your site is doing well in SERPs, you need not worry.
In general, if page is too long, it is not good for users as they have to keep scrolling, and page-load speed decreases.
As for your example "Say you start with a page about your company/service relative to one U.S. state you operate in and over time, you keep adding pertinent copy to that one-page site for other states."
To rank for local SEO, e.g., "real estate agents in NYC", if you have unique content for each state, you would do better to create a page for each state.
