Is search engine optimization difficult to do yourself?

Hello Expert,

I need first page google results for all my websites.I cant afford to pay SEO companies to do it for me because it will cost thousands per month for all websites. I also don't want to pay a lot for ad-words. I want to do it myself for free but don't know what to expect. Is it difficult? Any suggested books for beginners?

My website is Currency Tips, Forex Tips ? Currencytips.co.in

    At first glance, those look very competitive terms which will mean you will need to improve your site, add a lot more content, get lots of backlinks and still have to wait for Google to take notice of you.

    Choose your sources for learning SEO carefully and make sure the advice is up to date. As a general rule, if it seems spammy it probably is.
  • There are many tutorials and articles on Google that would teach you all the basics of SEO. If you want to do SEO by yourself I suggest you check out different websites like Search Engine Journal and SEO Moz and look for different SEO tips there. What you should look for are Beginner Tips, SEO 101 or SEO for Newbies. This is going to be a lot to learn though and it takes patience to really understand and learn SEO.

  • Those keywords not seem to be easy, doing SEO on your own will take months before you see ranks.. Also if you are asking is it difficult I'm assuming that you don't have a lot of SEO knowledge and you won't know what you are doing. My best advice is to buy some services, outsource it.

    • where to find one trustful and reliable SEO company? there are too many SEO companies that promise you much and you get nothing after several months' investment, that is the problem, I am also going to hire one SEO company, but it is difficult to find the right one.

    Learning how to do your own SEO is not impossible, it will just take time. It's worth it though, like you said, you would pay thousands per month for someone to do this for you. Just look for SEO blogs or look through the topics of this very forum, you'll find plenty of good advice.
  • The reason why it takes thousands to outsource is because the skills required to rank sites aren't easy.

    Sure, there are tons of people ready to take your money but few will be able to actually rank your site.

    I'd suggest reading through the top SEO blogs. You should read over 100 of the most popular SEO posts to get an idea of the industry.

    Then, you might want to go into the top SEO forums and find out what the most popular threads were and read those too.

    After that, post any remaining questions you have in advanced SEO forums and you'll have a final, thorough understanding of SEO.

    If you think you're going to start ranking overnight - forget it.

  • So let's get this straight... You have a website that offers stock and currency tips, but you can not afford to pay a few thousand dollars for SEO? So either your stock tips suck and do not work, or you are not following your own advice. Yet you feel your site deserves to rank #1 in Google.

    • I'm pretty sure those are some very hard keywords to hit, and the word combinations are way too generic. Do you really think that "currency tips" would lead to your site, and not to a boatload of currency converter or travel information sites? Back to the drawing board with the keywords. "Long tail" would be your best bet, and even that can be very hard with your market.

      Well, at least you've got a lot of competitors to analyse. That's where I would start once the target keywords are realistic.

      One thing that doesn't cost you too much: hire someone to proofread the texts. And by someone I mean a freelancer who's able to write on enterprise level, not just anyone who pushes 1000 words for $1. I'm not a native speaker, but even I can't believe that there's a competent organisation behind that sales pitch.
  • youll get a lot circular, generic and condescending responses in this thread so ill just cut right to the chase - yes. there is an easy button. its up to you, but you can either buy or download a copy of screaming frog seo spider. spider a big currency trading or forex website - the top guys. anyway, they will have already done all of that seo stuff - meta keywords, meta descriptions, h1 tags, site structure and all that good stuff. sit on the shoulders of the currency trading giants and copy what you need to copy and pattern your site to flow like theirs. now, that wont get you to the front of the line but it will put you in front of all the guys not using automated tools.
  • You are targeting some major terms, be ready to spend thousands on SEO. Since you are here looking for free SEO and judging from your low quality 4 page site, I would assume you don't have the budget you would need.

    Look into some easier competition terms or try a different niche if that is possible. There is a pretty steep learning curve when it comes to SEO but there is a wealth of information out there.

  • seo is fun if you love it. AS an beginner firstly you need to choose perfect keyword for your site. and then do on page seo while you posting. After posting do off page seo of your article.
  • The keywords you listed has extremely high competition. Therefore, I'll suggest you go for less competitive long tail keywords to stand a chance of doing well.

    Keyword research is the most critical aspect of every online venture and the first step to achieving a solid web presence.

    So do you keyword research properly. Use Google Keyword Planner and SEMRush to dig deeper.
