Backlinks Not Showing?

Hey Warriors,

I've never really done SEO in the past, but thought it might be
time to give it a go with some of these new niches I'm getting into.

For the past few days I've been backlinking to my site pretty
frequently. I've hit up some web 2.0, did a few article submissions
to the top directories, and even spent some time on Angela's
packet. For some reason, however, whenever I check to see how
many backlinks I have, hardly any show up - and almost none of
them are from the sites I've been trying to hit. Can anyone give me
an explanation for this?

  • Where are you checking? Links are hard to get showing in Google, but Yahoo shows them pretty easy.

    Regular directories, not article directories, can take weeks or months to get links. I don't know about article directories, maybe you have to wait a little longer. But for any site you are wondering about, check to see if they have a link to you or not, and if they do, see what kind of link they have. I just checked one RSS feed site search engine and discovered that they had a link, but it was an "indirect" link. That is, the link when to some script on their site that then took people to my site... :-(

  • I was just gonna start a thread about this same topic.

    I have about 10 articles out and a handful of bookmarks but still no backlinks. I know some of the articles aren't live yet, so obviously they won't show up until then.

    But for the rest, I'm assuming Google didn't crawl them yet. It's only been a few days. I did ping them, but who knows, maybe they just haven't been crawled.
