If you're going to do blog commenting (can bring you in some good traffic), make a relevant comment like a normal person. Put your name is the "name" field, and only put your url in the "website" field. If you put keywords in the "name" field and stuff like that, your comment will end up going to "spam." Also, the best blogs to post on monitor their comments and stuff. They aren't stupid. Approving normal comments shows interaction, but spam just brings down the blog.

Yeah, this works. Do exactly what Joey said above, just enter your website link in the appropriate field and that's what you'll need to get your comment to pass through.

Additional ways to get cheap backlinks - make sure you put your links on social media (a big one, often overlooked - especially Google Plus), interlink inside blogs (link from blog to blog), write content people will share (catchy titles with relevant text so people don't think you're click-baiting), see if you can make a guest post on similar blogs and giveaways (usually that involve sharing) all help (try this plugin for Wordpress https://wordpress.org/plugins/social-locker/).

Well, yes, blog commenting still works, just not like it used to. And, I don't use commenting software anymore. Timely relevant comments on niche targeted blogs can be good, if they allow it. I find it more and more a better use of my time to do more social media posts in various fb groups and forum sites.

no it didn't help this thread at all, and its not because I don't care, mind you, it's because this isn't about SEO. its a very specific question about blog commenting techniques which has been proven by the fact that good content unrelated to SEO but still related to blog commenting has been provided.

the "you are a moderator" page has no instructions for users to do what you did, so either report me as spam or add an infraction, otherwise the admin can do their job just fine, trust me I would know and have criticized them for re-categorizing my posts into a low traffic section before receiving decent exposure to great quality content on some of my threads for other members' sake

I would post my real name there.. Posting a website is not something the webmaster would like to see.. Well, if the comment is good written and informative maybe yes, but would he expect to see anchor text there

this is, once more, not an seo topic. i didnt even mention seo in the question or title and am not interested in the seo benefits. the only way I'd relate this to seo is that a SEO pro should know but I
would expect more people would know just because blog commenting is such a common technique.

I am asking, has anyone actually measured the effect of both techniques and compared them to draw a conclusion? I guess this would be hard to do, but for all the particulars and testing required i figured some should know.

It makes sense to me that google would recognize and appreciate a name anchor vs a keyword anchor and try to relate that to the domain owner/admin/contact as well as any contact info or blog author info on the linked site, but even still I am not concerned about SEO. It also makes sense that a keyword anchor could be good too. I'm looking for a concrete answer, if it's even known.

If any SEO expert can really shed some light instead of guessing or providing useless content, boy that would be great!

I doubt the links have any direct SEO benefit, but often times the blog author will visit your site after and may leave a comment... which of course creates content, and that does have a SEO benefit.

Don't try and game your comments by putting keywords into strange places, if you piss off the blogger, your comment will end up in the trash.

well that sucks, and like @savidge4 said, seems to me like there is probably more weight in the context and authorhship attribution (what and who) than in the "name" anchor link and even a contextual link within the comment.

Better put your name on the name box as required and just put your website in the option below it. If you're going to use a keyword especially if its your first time to post then the webmaster will likely delete your comment.

it should be mixed between your brand name and your main keywords .... so mix them well and you are good to go always ...

Blog comments can be also used as backlinks. Blog comments are really good source of visitors.

Our target is to either get traffic from the backlinks having the targeted keywords or directly building the link juice so to get some share of page rank and there is of no use to put anchor tag on your name but there is case. Actually I just wanna say that don't repeat the same comments again n again if you do, it will be considered as a spam so, do some changes with your description or even in your keywords but the best part just put the comments in your niche(same service provider) because it's enough to putting the article or comments in your niche but getting links from keywords is the plus factor... I have been wondering the same thing but after doing some research I also gathered that it is best to use your real name for blog commenting.

Blog commenting is useful as long as you are not spamming other sites. Don't use your keywords instead of your name. Comment on relevant blogs only which has good domain authority.

I always use my name when writing comments on blogs.
First of all, using a keyword instead of your name or nickname does not look very professional. You are clearly on that blog for the sole purpose of leaving your link! So, chances are your comment will be marked as spam or deleted.
Using your real name shows the blog owner that you are there because you liked their blog or article. And this is so important!

I will prefer two ways, use your own name or use your brand name rather than keyword. If some people are getting approvals on through keywords then you can use your brand name in name field and if everyone is using his name then you should also use your name. I don't think keywords can help in this scenario because it is an old method to get backlinks.
