    There is no way to tell and is based on a variety of factors such as the average addition/decay rates for a given query space. Of the variety of signals they can use historical factors are the ones to consider

    If you want more reading I have found these posts for you;

    Link builders guide to historical ranking factors
    Spam detection using historical ranking factors (Google)
    Do link spammers leave foot prints? (Microsoft)

    Here's a snippet of relevance to the convo;

    Link Spam Detection
    As discussed there are many ways that temporal factors can be used to identify spam or otherwise de-value links to a given page. Depending on the topical nature and related niche data, a link profile can grow at an unusual rate.

    One historical factor to identify Spam is the rate of change. Link loss can be used to indetify not only a page that is stale, but trying to game the system as well. This might explain why Spam does well early on and is tanked after a period of time;

    "A large spike in the quantity of back links may signal a topical phenomenon (e.g., the CDC web site may develop many links quickly after an outbreak, such as SARS), or signal attempts to spam a search engine"

    If a number of links to a document dissapear over a given time frame (threshold) and the document is considered 'stale'. This can include;
    1. the date at which one or more links to a document disappear,
    2. the number of links that disappear in a given window of time,
    3. or some other time-varying decrease in the number of links (or links/updates to the documents containing such links)
    This can in turn be used to devalue or totally ignore the links pointing to a given document. You should always be aware of the norm in any market/niche you are doing SEO for. Anomalies can often lead to the discounting of links, removal of value or raise flags for the Spam Bots to come and have a closer look at your site/page.

    Another temoral link factor that can be used to indentify spam is linkage of non-related documents. When spikes of links to a document from non-related related pages, another flag can be raised to send the spam bots over to have a closer look.
    I do suggest reading all three to get a handle on things... ultimately one would need to be intimately familiar with a query space to guage the potential thresholds involved.

    I hope that helps some.....

  • My strategy might be a little different. I do not build links for the first week or two, if my site is on the first couple of pages of google. The reason being, my sites kept getting sandboxed.

    After that two week period, I build links with socialbot, then manually build links using Angela's backlinks. So, I build about 130 over a two week period.

    You should get related, quality links, at first it really does not matter the quantity. Just do not exaggerate like 1000 links in a day.

    you an never build links too fast. this is because you have no control over it. in other words, you odn't know when the webmaster of the sites liking to you will aprove your links. while some will approve within 48 hours, others may take 2-3 months depneding o the volume of work on their hands. however, it is not good building thousands of links today, none tommorow and then another 5,000 links the following day. this is haphazard. try and maintain momentum. this will not hurt your link building camoaign. good luck.

Heres how to get backlinks Internet Marketing, Article marketing - Article marketing is still a great way to create traffic and back links to your website and for the most part is free. Just make sure your author bio box is well written and includes links to your blog. Submit your blog post to social directories and Post comments - A very effective and easy way to create backlinks is to comment on blogs that are related to yours.

    I agree with happy guy, I don't think you can ever build links to fast. Because really you have no control over it.

    Also I am very sceptical of the idea that link building too quickly can get you sandboxed.

    Why would Google penalise you for this?

    If they were to penalise you, why wouldn't I just pay somebody to build up thousands links for my competitors in a short period of time and watch them disappear?

    The reason I wouldn't waste time or money doing that is because it would make no difference!
