Hi Guys. I've got an offer or two from the UK that I'd like to build an affiliate site around. They have good conversion stats with UK traffic, so I'd like to focus on that region. How do I get my site to rank well in the UK and get UK traffic when I live in another part of the world? Thanks.

Buy a country specific TLD , index your website with google and bing and make sure your Geo targeting location is UK which you can find in Search - International targeting -Google
    Geo-Targeting in bing

Use phrases related to a region, like the best restaurant in alabama or the best seo agency in Hyderabad etc.

Thanks Rocky. What about hosting? Do I need to buy UK hosting as well so as to have a UK IP?

Google seems to assume that the country where a site is hosted is the country where the site wants to compete.

But, in Webmaster Tools, you can tell it the site is meant for competing in another country.

(Had a site I got to be #2 and 3 for a bunch of keywords that British people use. But I'm in the States, so, it didn't do me much good. I was on page 3 and 4 in Great Britain.

So, I got bright and told Google in Webmaster tools that I'm targeting England. Within the week, I got to be on page # 3 or worse in the US but moved in the top 5 positions in the UK. Got better results, money-wise.)

Plus, as already mentioned, you can do local.

      BlueWidgetsForSale.com/London-cheap-blue-widgets.
      BlueWidgetsForSale.com/Liverpool-miniature-blue-widgets.
      BlueWidgetsForSale.com/Manchester-tough-blue-widgets.

If you do a city+keyword and you optimize properly, you'll be anywhere from #1 to the bottom of page 2 just with on-page optimization, depending on how competitive the niche. And that, based on the top keywords in the niche.

So, home insurance Liverpool kind of keywords, not the lowest quotes for car and home insurance in Liverpool keywords.

Something like car insurance keywords (by difficulty) will probably get you on page 3 for keyword +major city.

Something like homeowners insurance + keyword, at the bottom of page 1 or top of page 2 just from on-page optimization, for pretty much every city under 1 million people.

Something like insurance broker + city, in the domain name, can get you at the bottom of page 1 with just on-page. You get a handful of backlinks and you get to be #4-6 for cities like Chicago, Houston.

By a handful, I mean 6-7, from pr 0 pages.

The above assumes you have my level of skills. So, clearly, with better skills you do better, with worse you do worse.

You register your domain with Google webmaster tools, click on Search Traffic, then on International Traffic, then choose the country you want.

You can only choose 1 country.

Then do onsite and offsite SEO that's appropriate.

Thanks guys. When I'm doing my keyword research, do I just set the Google keyword to the country that I'm thinking of targeting or does that matter? It's like a workout program, so people there would just be typing in "workout program review", or "does workout program work", and not "workout program reviews uk". So would I still just go after the global keywords, or how would I target the correct ones? Thanks.

        Steve.

Though People search on local search engines like google.com.au or google.co.in, when you target a global keyword, you may have a little bit preference when you do perfect Local SEO.

I suggest you to narrow your reach , which gives you more low competition and easy achievable goals.

What's the keyword tool that you're using?

I agree with rocky. Register a domain with an extension .co.uk with your keyword phrase.
For example you are promoting an affiliate offer on weight loss, you may register a domain like:
    loseweightfast.co.uk
Then post helpful contents and tips in there. Build banklinks and get your site shared in Social networks.

When you set up hosting for your site make sure that the data centre that your site is hosting on is based in the UK. Also UK directory listings, and local SEO citations and backlinks from mainly UK sites will help.

Your best bet is to focus on local SEO. Say you're selling webdesign services (just an example). Instead of focusing on optimizing for general keywords related to web design, you should focus on "web design services in London" (or wherever in the UK).
And also, use social media, join groups with members from the UK, targeting UK visitors means finding them first.

    Hey,

I will build a list so it's not necessary to invest in SEO for ranking.
Does in UK exists syndicate aggregators similiar like alltop, scoop, zemanta....???

Facebook....I don't know, a good recommend fb advertising service is not so cheap and I don't like it to post 3-4 times a week on facebook- I must write good newsletters too (for the list) to make money, so at the beginning posting 3-4 times on facebook + write weekly good newsletter is a huge budget for me, I must hire a writer. I don't like "writing and chatting" on facebook, I will keep the business simple=

get subscribers and write newsletters= make money.

No posting, chatting...... or such things.
But with an own website whre get uk traffic/ uk aggregators to get traffic from my content?
