hello,

One of my competitors for a local computer business who seems to be kicking everyones butt in the SERPs is actually getting 1.2k inbound links to their site from only one particular site...

I have attached a pic.

Do you think he will get booted from google soon or is this type of backlinking ok or something?

1.2K links from 1 unique domain? Is it a sidebar or footer link of some sort? Hard to say without more information. However sometimes you do see domains with a lot of spammy backlinks that stay up forever. The only way you can beat them is keep building high quality links

Is it a dofollow link? If it is, it may have issues.

Just because you cannot see his other backlinks, it does not mean they don't exist.

Most of the smart link builders block link crawling services links ahref and majestic.
Dig deeper and see why he is actually ranking.

i think your competitor site may have more than 1.2 backlinks...if not..probably they will face issues like getting banned...just keep a close eyes on its ranking on the SERPs...regards and take care refrud!!
