Hi there,

I have 2 questions about SEO

1. If I have a baby account with hostgator which hosts unlimited domains and I am adding all my sites on that account with their own domains (addn I think) does that dilute my sites when it comes to seo and would it be better to have a seperate hosting account for each website?

2. If i upoad videos to sites like myspace , revver etc and my links to my website isn't showing up on the site in the description as hyperlinked, does google follow that link and give me a backlink?

Cheers

IF you're interlinking all the sites you'll get penalized. G and other SEs will see it as a bogus network (ie: spam). There's a more "official" word for this, but I forgot what it is ; )

Now, it isn't only better to host on separate hosts - it's just safer to spread yourself out. The key is to host your sites across different "C" class IPs. The "C" class is the 3rd set of numbers on an IP address (ie: AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD).

I caution against hosting all or most of your sites on the same hosting account. Spread out. For example, I host my affiliate sites across several accounts and don't have more than 10 "add ons" on each. Other sites such as blogs, e-commerce, and lead-gen are hosted elsewhere.

There are hosts that specialize in separate "C" class hosting so you can literally have 20 domains under that same account; and each will have a separate C class. The set-back is that they're a bit pricey.

    As far as # 2...

I'm not quite sure what you mean. If you don't have any links to your site, then it stands to reason that nothing will be followed. If you have image links, they'll be followed; however, the links will not pass what's called Link Reputation (ie: what the link actually says about what it's linking to).

Image links do count as backlinks - just like any text link. The only exception is a link that's in javascript. If the links have "nofollow", then that will tell the engines not to pass any "influence" to the linked site. Truthfully, I really don't use videos or myspace just yet, so I apologize if I'n not quite familiar with what you're stating.

    Hope this helps.

I agree with Jay on the first bit about using differnt hosting accounts to spread yourself out. I put about 20 addons to a hosting account but they are not shared accounts they are vps accounts. For all my dedicated accounts im using couple 100 to couple 1000 domains per account. It all depends on what your using the domains for as well. You dont want to put white hat sites on with grey hat or bh sites you want the seperation. Also not sure if your aware or not but you will get a higher seo score with google if you provide contact information at the registrar instead of getting it private, plus a about us,contact and privacy policy page goes along way with ranking a site with google.

Thanks Jay, the first Q'n very well answered.

I have been posting Videos to the sites mentioned above and what I do is post my link in the description, thats the whole URL but it does not become a link its plain text. So there is no chance of getting a backlink from there.

But if your video is related to topic and if its good, then the visitor will take the trouble to copy/paste the URL and visit your site.

You can get a back link from Daily Motion, You Tube, also some video sites have the title in the URL these are good for SEO too, eg Meta Cafe, Flixya.

Here is a good video to boost your You Tube Channel PR Kick Start SEO

    I hope all this helps.

If the links are not showing as hyperlinked, you will not get a backlink, However, in your profile in myspace or other sites you can update your website URL, I think that gives you a link
