Exact Match Domain vs. Brand.

Hello Warriors,

I would like some guidance in deciding which domain to select for a simple living forum:

1. I understand EMD still get points with the Google algorithm. Yet, at the same time there are a lot of sites with some of the keywords and they lack distinction. I can get SimpleLiving or a similar keyword (minimalist, backtobasics etc...) regarding the topic and in hundreds of different TLDs. True, the EMD will have an advantage with ranking but the lack of distinction can take its toll.

What do you think?

2. I am planning to set up a vBulletin on a .club and use Index of / as the domain for the simple living forum. I could set it up in simpleliving.space

What do you think of BeesWax.Club (Join the hive! )as the domain name for a simple living forum? Will it work as a brand?

Thank you for your time and consideration.

It really depends on your niche, for some niches Google looks at the brand as being better than a site name. For example, if your site name has Viagra in that you're basically done, however in the other products, It tells Google with the site is about.

For example, if you have howtomakefirends.com, versus getsocialskills.com, Google sees one as a series of keywords, and sees one as more of a brand name. However, it is able to take both terms friends and social skills, and figure out that they basically are associated and mean the same thing, so in that case it may not affect the ranking is much, and other things such as back links may become more important.

It really depends on your niche.

Just go for branded if you want long term brand equity and build a real business rather than being a 'sleazy Internet marketer who cashes in only on temporary trends'.

      Thank you AlvinChua91,

I'm going to go for the brand. I just got some feedback from my son as well and he agrees. He also likes the sound of BeesWax for a simple living forum. He noted that, bees wax is actually used in the simple living lifestyle as people use bees wax for candles and other products. So, there is a connection.

I like the sound of it and it's memorable, short, catchy and it was available. Consumerism is just a lot of BeesWax I just had to write it.

Simple Living gets 18,100 searches per month, while beeswax gets 135,000. I'm going to sell bees wax in the store of the forum. The domain should help me to rank for the keyword. What I like most of all is that it will stand out from all the other websites that have keywords for their names and are almost indistinguishable and difficult to remember. People need to take an extra step to remember one site from another when they all have similar names.

Once again, thank you for your feed back. I'm going to go with BeesWax.Club

Thank you Chris for your comment.

You had it wrong.. Google does not give points for EMD anymore. Yahoo and Bing maybe, but certainly not Google.. At this day in age, you're probably better off going for something brandable and easier to remember! As long as you do proper SEO on the site, domain isn't gonna matter much.
