    Your only competition is the SERP position you want to rank for (top of 1st page on SERPs), nothing else matters. Nobody is trying to outrank position #97.

  • Op I've seen you around a bit just have one question.. are you talking about the blog in your sig? If so don't you think you should get a domain and work on the website a bit before you look into keywords?

    Just an idea...

    I can't say how Google works, but if I was implementing a search on a site two or three out of five words would've been just filtered from the search or index. Those are called stop words, and they're too common or vague to really help with the search. Google is much more clever than the WP plugins I'm dealing with, and seems to recognize "how to" as a concept, but that doesn't really help you in this case.

    To summarize:
    It's not a "long tail" keyword with just two words.
    It's not a "long tail" keyword because it's targeting a common concept in a popular field without any words that limit the scope.
    Just adding "how to" doesn't help if bulk of your competition is how tos and beginner guides.

    What's your excuse?

      Agree. 'how to add meta keywords' is not much of a long tail keyword. It would be a different case if it had some other considerate keyword along with 'meta' & 'keywords'.

    No need to keep long tail keywords.By using geo tag it hepls you to rank highly in search results by using short keywords.
    ex:
    <meta name="geo.position" content="17.385044;78.486671" />

    <meta name="ICBM" content="17.385044, 78.486671" />

      Have they really started using those? It was exactly the opposite couple of years ago. References, please?

      And that would be a sensible statement seeing how even this post is about search manipulation with those tags.

    You can check long tail keywords from google itself. It displays list of keyword phrases below the SERP whenever a user submits his query.

    The thing with long tail keywords is that you will be targeting a specific audience. You should use the same tools everyone uses to do this, browse through the forums, you'll find plenty of threads that talk about keyword planning tools.

    It is less common and draws fewer visitors but often pull more quality visitors leading to more conversions than ordinary keyword. Choosing which type of keywords to use usually depends on your market and the keyword competition. If it's a high competition, make sure your onpage and offpage are good to outrank competition.

    For long tail keyword research, the best tool I would suggest you is Google Keyword Planner. You asking about the "how to add meta keywords" keyword, that have huge competition. According to my point of view, I preferred less competitive keyword. You should try to take low or medium competitive keyword for your blog, that is easy to target on Search Engine. You will get fast and effectively result.

      Yes, competition matters.

      It's not enough just pick up long-tail keywords. You have to pickup a long-tail keyword with LOW SEO competition.

      There are many tools help analyze competition. My favorite is long-tail pro. Just google it for more info.
