Checking Keyword Competition

I read a post on here months ago where the person posting or a person replying to the post said that they had a great method for checking the competition level for a keyword using Google. I am trying to remember exactly how they said they did it but, I can't remember exactly what they said they did. Something along the lines of typing the keyword in quotes and then next to that, typing in:url in:title and one more in: but I can't remember what they said they typed for the last "in:". Does anyone here know the post I am talking about or the method that this person was explaining to find out which websites were truly utilizing on-page seo methods for ranking a certain keyword? They said that after typing these three things into Google, if the results returned were less than 100,000, that there was a high chance of being able to rank on the first page for that keyword. Anyone know what I am talking about?

  • I know what you are talking about, but that is a HORRIBLE way to check competition. The number of results has nothing to do with how difficult or easy the competition is.

    • Yeah, I guess. Do you know what the third "in: " would be?
