The only way to get a good link from an .edu site (outside of just hoping they find you and decide to link to you), is to contact them directly and to ask for one.

EVERY other .edu link you get is worthless junk.

I do not know if you are a writer or not. If you want to write qualitative link of targeted area then you can choose freelancing sites like odesk.com, freelancer.com, fiverr.com etc.

But better if you create your own links. I personally suggest you post on .edu, .gov blogs etc by yourself because if a bad backlink is created then it is tough to remove.

That would be the kind of junk link that Mike F. mentioned above. It's probably on a PR n/a page somewhere deep within the site, and it's probably nofollow.

Do you believe in homeopathy? You're using links that are diluted in several ways, and that Google doesn't even follow. Not only that, but the claim that the thing works is just some old superstition to begin with. This is the SEO equivalent of homeopathy. If you want to believe in that stuff - well, there's not much I can say to you.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

      What's your excuse?

Not to get too far off topic, but natural remedies can and do work for many ailments. I get that you were using a metaphor here, but all the same, homeopathy is a legit alternative.

That said, .edu links only help to boost websites that make sense to be on a .edu site in the first place. Dog walkers and Amazon affiliates need not apply.

It's a proof that placebo works, and absolutely nothing else. It's not even a "natural remedy", it's just plain water or sugar. If you're not so sure about this, check the concepts of Similia Similibus Curantur (the silly old superstition), potentification (dilution and weird shaking ritual), and memory of water (still haven't seen the Nobel price for that one).

SEO is a technical process. Placebo and positive attitude works with humans to an extend, but wishful thinking doesn't affect computers.

Actually, natural plants and herbs, homeopathy, does work and is well documented all across the web.

As far as wishful thinking for rankings, no one ever said that worked.

I'm thinking you're a "glass is half empty" kinda fella. But, this is too far off topic.

Why do you keep shifting the goal posts? I didn't talk about natural plants and herbs. You can get yourself killed with that stuff, so of course it does something! Adding homeopathy (a method in which the remedy by definition doesn't contain any active ingredients) to that group is just a false analogy.

Please, do your research before believing stuff that people try to sell to you. Homeopathy is very similar to crap SEO in the way that none of the foundations work on any level, and you need to be either totally clueless or a believer to defend either of them.

Otherwise we'd be all dead from polluting the rivers, we'd be curing nausea by eating vomit, and we'd be seeing thin Amazon affiliate sites by clueless newbies constantly on the 1st SERPs.

No. I'm the kind of guy who doesn't like to believe in woo woo, old superstition, misconceptions, and ad hoc rationalizations that have no merit.

I'm repeating myself here, but if you want to believe in this kind of stuff - well, there's not much I can say to you.

EDU and Govt. back links are very effective to boost the rankings of the keywords. Because on these website you can see very high traffic and most people visit to these websites to get information and buy Govt. service that is reason to traffic on these websites.

So you have a method to score you links on front page, or one of the main level pages? Congrats. Most .edu and .gov peddlers sure don't.

The authority of the linking page is what matters. Usually the page is buried somewhere in the site and has no authority, and your links are nofollow as they should be. They're not "very effective" nor do they "boost the rankings of the keywords".

Even getting traffic is very questionable. If there's a page that contains official government instructions they're likely not going to allow any crap links on that page.

BTW, you might want to setup a real signature in your profile settings. You're risking your comments to be modded because of the spam link you have in them.

You guys demonstrate well why the .edu and .gov links were called BS in this thread. You're explicitly looking to comment on blogs, which is something that's usually pointless.

You've been explained why it doesn't work and why it doesn't matter. Do you have an excuse for acting stupid?

Apologies, I misinterpreted. Moreover, I just gave an example how one can use search queries.
