Omigosh! I'm #1 in Google News! Woohoo!

Wow!

This is my first attempt to do anything to get even close to the top of Google in any way, shape or form.

While I know a lot about marketing online and a little about SEO, SEO is not my forte. A while back, I did some research and found some information to teach my how to do this.

I hadn't tried it until today though and wasn't sure how it would work. (Or if it WOULD work.) But I submitted my press release less than an hour ago and I AM #1 in Google News for my keywords!

Woohoo!

Michelle

Hello Nightingale, Congratulations. I think it would be really useful to fellow Warriors if you could break down the exact steps without revealing the niche or the keyword.

    1. Did the keyword have high competition?
    2. Can you provide any tips on the writing style and what you did that made you rank quite quickly?

    Thanks

"Sharing News" isn't helping anyone on the WF. Now if she said She's #1 on Google because... - THEN it would be beneficial.

What if I said I made $1287.42 last week ... would that help anyone? No - it is stale information with ABSOLUTELY no value -

          Hi Jon,

I don't see it as the same thing.

First: there are countless threads here on the forum discussing niche & keyword research. Look it up.

Second: There are countless threads here on the forum discussing Press Releases and best practices thereof. Look it up.

Third: I learned about getting into Google News right here on the forum several years ago. Again, look it up.

Fourth: I don't think the OP should be made to feel obligated to reveal the specifics of her business "for the benefit of newbies" to the peril of her new product or service. Suffice to say her target audience is seeing the information she has intended for them to see.

I'm not being harsh intentionally, it's just that the information is not hard to come by ... and it's all right here.

          Best wishes.

What "specifics of her business" did I EVER ask her to reveal? Look it up.

When did I say anything about benefit of "newbies" Look it up.

I wasn't confused; HOWEVER I was careless with 1) my paraphrasing and using quotation marks, and 2) my responding to 2 posters while citing only your post. I apologize for that.

Now that I've thought a bit more about this, I find the sort of post that Michelle made more valuable than the large essay, step-by-step type posts because (god I'm sorry for all of the numbering)
              1) the rudiments of what she described are available here on the forum,

              2) certain details about a marketing campaign are what I consider to be "specifics of her business", although I understand your opinion may differ,

              3) there has been a huge backlash here against "blog style" posts here because (paraphrasing here) it doesn't exactly facilitate discussion, and

              4) this is something I should have undertaken this week, but got distracted with other off-page SEO explorations. This is the real one for me, I'd say (DUH); you can call it a hidden agenda if you wish

Best wishes. There was no ill-will intended toward you, Jon. It was genuine carelessness (aka dumbassedness colliding with a keyboard).
Oh, and a repeated congratulations extended to the OP.

It's a discussion and sharing forum. I see no reason why Michelle should feel obligated to share specifics of her business unless she chooses to do so. I certainly wouldn't, if I were her.

Besides, she shared enough for anyone to take similar action in his/her own niche, in my opinion.

    Congratulations again, Michelle.

I'm not raining on her parade. I think it's great. As a matter of fact - I am #2 on Google for 3 VERY COMPETIVE medical niches. I think what she did is fantastic! "He who owns Google owns the Internet" -

I don't need to know her keywords or anything like that. I'm just asking for her to share "what she did." The reason is because when anyone reads the thread, they come here thinking that she is going to share HOW she did...But she doesn't -

Just ask yourself, why do you come to the warrior forum? To learn stuff you don't know and help others right? ... Exactly. What if people STOPPED sharing their methods and only talked about all their accomplishments ...

Would you keep coming to the warrior forum then?

      That's all i'm saying -

      Imran,

First off, it may not be new to get number one on Google News -- hell, after the first person gets number one on Google News it will never be new again as it can only be new once.

However, it is new to Michelle, and I congratulate her for her accomplishment. So, congratulations Michelle!

Second, why should she post her niche and keywords here for the public eyes? That is not needed! If it is a small niche, or the keywords that are being used have little competition, then why should Michelle share her insider information?

What Michelle posted, her success, is more than enough information to entice others into taking action themselves! That is the important factor.

Good grief! I was sitting in Panera Bread this afternoon and this evening working on my IM (on my brand new laptop -- yay!) and was soooo excited to see such awesome results from my efforts in such a short time. I wanted to share my results.

I ate dinner at Panera, packed up my laptop, took a drive by the ocean, stopped at the grocery store and came home to find this. I just cannot believe the negative posts in this thread!

IM can be soooo discouraging sometimes when you're not seeing results and I'm always encouraged when I see a non-Goober succeed. It makes me think that I might be able to do it too, which is why I shared the info.

    EEEEEXACTLY! Thank you!

And a special thank you to everyone who understood what I was saying and trying to do. A special thanks also to Amy Brown for offering to help me go to the event I wanted to go to. Your thoughtfulness is much appreciated! A special thanks also to Sherice (eCover Artist) for my gorgeous Web site! I love it and am so happy with it!

My intent was to share my good news, not start a how-to thread. (I was short on time. Panera was closing and they were going to kick me out.)

    Wrong!

    1. It's new to ME. I never claimed it was news to anyone else. I was simply sharing "good news." You can have 3 kids, but the birth of the 4th kid is still "good news," even though you already have 3 kids and a 4th kid "isn't news."

    2. Yes, I paid to submit my press release, but paid or free submissions aren't the issue. You're paying for a service, not for media placement. It's no different than paying a PR person or firm for their services.

You pay for AD PLACEMENT and can choose when, where and how often your ad is run. But a mention in the media as news can't be bought at ANY price (if it's a legitimate news source anyway). That's the difference between advertising and news. Try paying for a mention in print or broadcast media and see how far you get. You'll be shown the door faster than you can blink. Journalists and media take the integrity of their news VERY seriously. Don't even TRY to pay for placement of a story as news if you want to be taken seriously.

You're right if you're looking for how-to info on this.

But I wasn't intending it as a how-to thread. I was simply sharing good news.

    Eeeezactly!

In addition to an IM education, the WF is also here to support and encourage it's members. We've all seen/read some of the threads about how our families and the average Joe out there has no idea what we do and doesn't care to learn. Loneliness, frustration and a serious lack of understanding and encouragement are some of the pitfalls of being an IMer, even if you're an overwhelmingly successful IMer.

That's where Warriors come in. Warriors are here to educate, but also encourage and rejoice with other Warriors.

So it's NOT without benefit. It benefits me because I get to share and receive pats on the back for this. (I certainly wasn't being altruistic with this post.) But others here also benefit because they can see that another ordinary Warrior -- a non-Goober -- has succeeded at something.

Sevenish is right on all counts. (Thanks for your support, BTW!)

I'm not going to detail exactly how I did it for a couple of reasons:

    1. This is just the starting point. At this time, I have no idea how much traffic it will generate, how many will opt-in to my list and how many sales I'll get for this particular promotion. It's a PROCESS, not an event and getting ranked in Google News is just the first step. When I have hard numbers on visitors, opt-ins and sales, I'll know a lot more.

So really, I don't have much more to share with you than I already have. I'd like to know more before I share more.

    2. According to Google's external keyword tool, my keywords (or rather, single keyword phrase), got 8,100 searches last month. Pretty good, I'd say.

    3. This is for my offline marketing efforts. I'm targeting a few specific niches, but I'm targeting by industry, not my local market. However, I didn't add industry-specific identifiers to my keyword phrase, so anyone here pursuing offline marketing could use the exact same keyword no matter what type of business they were targeting.

My campaign is time-sensitive, so I'll keep it to myself for now. When the campaign is over, I'll probably share the details.

But as Sevenish mentioned, everything I've done is right here on the WF. So if you don't want to wait for the info, feel free to do a search.

    Michelle

P.S. I'm still #1 in Google News and at the bottom of the first page of Google under "News Results" for my keyword. Getting on the first page of Google search is waaaay awesome too!
