Hello mates...

Last month I created my first wordpress based review site which is about a Clickbank product...
It is a 5 page website with almost 500-600 words in each page/post...

I am going to add several tags to each page of this website to improve its ranking in google. Just 2 questions please...
1. Regarding to the SEO techniques, do I have any limitation about the number of tags per each page? Can I use say 5-6 tags per every post?

2. I am going to have the below tags in my tag lines:
"Product Name Review"
"Product Name system Review"
"Product-Name-Review"

Am I OK to do this?

Thank you so much.

  • Tags don't help your rankings.

    And ...
    “Product Name Review”
    “Product Name system Review”
    “Product-Name-Review”
... is unnecessary and just keyword stuffing your page, creating duplicate content on your archive pages, and doesn't help people who come to your site.

Tags should be used for real people who visit your site to be able to find information better through the search functions and the archive pages that tags produce.

  • yes, it's also a great way to make your log popular in search engines.

  • You can do what you suggest, but you'll be wasting link benefit creating tag archives for the sake of it.

Every tag you add costs link benefit to get it indexed and potentially ranked. You'll find tags are difficult to gain SERPs directly, so you are getting webpages indexed for no traffic.

In a perfect SEO world every webpage on your site will generate SERPs so your valuable link benefit does work as it flows through your site. Adding lots of tags that do nothing (no extra traffic) is a waste of SEO resources that would be better spent on important articles.

  • Hi mates,

Sorry I couldn't get exactly what you meant!
So you say tags have nothing to do with seo and ranking of a small website?

What do you mean by this too please:
wasting "link benefit" creating tag archives for the sake of it

So how could I use tags in every post? You mean I should just use one tag per every post or what?

    Thanks

    • Tags don't have that much to do with SEO. They're a way to tie your similar posts together which is helpful to your visitors first and foremost. So if you have, say, several product reviews you could tag or categorize them to "Reviews".

Whatever you do, don't have tag archives with only one article. That an easy way to duplicate content. So no unique tags for articles.

You're wasting link benefit by having unnecessary links. Even nofollow links cut link juice that you could try to direct to your money pages whatever they may be. In my opinion this not as big a consideration if you're not particularly trying to boost any page.

  • Tags are ok to use, but they' won't help you out with your rankings.
DO use them if you want, take WF for example, this very thread has one tag, the word "tags". If you click on it, you'll find ALL the threads that have the tag "tags" (ok, this example is it's quite confusing but I hope you get the point!)

This looks like keyword stuffing to me, you're better off just using the first one, "Product Name Review".

  • I will not do this kind of optimization in my web pages so I wouldn't recommend anyone to follow this. Instead focus on building quality backlinks and improving site content.
  • Basically using Tags will be useful because search engines can crawl your website but don't use many tags for your website instead implement some SEO strategies that would help to achieve page rank.

    • Ignore this.

Do not use tags. It's a 5 page website. There is zero benefit to putting tags on such a small site. It would actually be a negative because you will be diluting the strength of your internal links by just flooding pages with a bunch of extra useless links.
