Am I doing something wrong?

Hi all of you!

I read on this forum for a couple months, and i decided in December '14 i will start my own website, you learn the most from your own failures right?

But at this moment, when the site is about 5 months old, i really think the traffic is bad, On a regular day my site gets 7 organic visitors, some good days 10 and some bad days 3 per day. Am i doing something wrong? I think the onpage seo is good, but will love to hear from you what do you think about it. But i'm not sure if i can post a link to my website in this thread so will do it in my following reply. The site currently has 130 articles, and wanted to scale it up to somewhere around 250 - 300 articles in the next couple of months. But only when i see some traffic increase, i need to have some motivation if you know what i mean

The website is supposed to be an authority website, with lots of content and rich information. So as i read at that time, i didn't do keyword research because i think an authority website needs to have all (!) information. So i have easy, medium and hard competition.

Some other metrics from the website:
Backlinks: 442
domains: 84

PA: 11
DA: 18

Majesticseo:
TF: 20
CF: 34

Hope you guys can help me to give me some tips, i read all over the internet i should have been further at this point.

  • Can you tell us what niche you are in, how you site organized and mainly are you targeting long tail keywords?

For new sites, long tail keyword are the way to go, they generally have less competition and you get chance of getting some ranking. For high competitive keywords, you chance of ranking even in top 10 page is very dim. So first create a long tail keywords with some traffic. use adword keyword tool to find long tail keyword and create 3 or 4 500 word article or single 1000 word article for each long tail keyword and post it.

Also organize your website in SILO structure like if you have dog website have categories like:
1.Feed a dog (under this category, post article related to feeding like "what to feed to a puppy, how to feed a puppy, what to feed to golden retriever etc)
    2. Train a Dog (article like How to train a dog to hand shake, how to train a dog to get a ball etc)

so by grouping related article in to category you increase your site relevance to the topic.

  • Well, first of all, 5 months is still new so don't panic.
Definitely give us the link, otherwise you won't get much help from anyone. You think the onpage seo is good... well, it would be nice to see what you've done so far!
You also say you want to offer information. Are your articles well written? Are they written in proper English? What script are you using and what SEO plugins did you install so far?
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Your DA is too poor. You probably need to either build more backlinks or focus on keywords with lower competition (or even both).
  • It would be even hard to rank a website for a 5 months period! For a competitive niches, you should work YEARS! Just don't stop building QUALITY backlinks and do NOT spam!
  • Well i just saw i made a mistake in my first post. The da is 11 en pa 18. Just even sadder.
The url is ; Home - , for tips please let me know in a reply or pm!

When i check my pa/da, moz (for example) can find 1 or zero backlinks. When do they update their system?

Slade; please check my website, the articles are not the best quality but, in my opinion at least, it's readable and i don't have the money yet to outsource the articles to quality writers.

    • Well, first of all, you should do something about your site's loading speed. It takes too long to load.
Your articles are ok, but not great. They're readable, but it does show that they're not written by a native English speaker. So, my suggestion in order to perfect your content is to, maybe, find someone to proofread them. It's cheaper than paying someone to write them from scratch.

I was thinking I could also suggest you pay for some advertising but I guess it's out of the question if you don't have a budget.
  • No one have any tips about my website ?
  • You can have perfect articles, you wont get more visitors.....What you need is better KWR. Find out what people are looking for and target that. Your homepage has the page title "home"....How about something like holland travel guide, again do some KWR on it first.....Some more pictures in the articles would look nice too I think.
  • Yes, you're doing something wrong.

The site itself is not user friendly (long, daunting looking paragrpahs will turn your visitors away).

Also, the writing is off too, not good enough.

    But your starting point
"The website is supposed to be an authority website, with lots of content and rich information. So as i read at that time, i didn't do keyword research because i think an authority website needs to have all (!) information. So i have easy, medium and hard competition. "

is waaay off. You do need keyword research.

It's like you decided to bake a strawberry cake and decided to leave out strawberries, flour, milk, eggs and sugar.

How is your onpage SEO ok, if you didn't do keyword research, what keywords did you optimize for?

Why do you think would-be visitors to Holland care about ABN-AMRO? That page might get you visits from people interested in mortgages, business loans, checking accounts, not people interested in Holland.

  • First of all, sorry about the late reply, busy at work and some family issues.
Thanks for the answers, DABK, your response really opened my eyes, thanks!
